Bravo to baritone Nathan Keoughan, who made a return to Opéra de Montréal for Puccini's Turandot.

Nathan joined the new production by Francesca Zambello as the Chancellor (Ping).

"The trio... perfectly matched... (with the) elegant baritone of Nathan Keoughan." - Olyrix

"The trio executed their tricky, fast-paced music with intensity and flair; their presence walked the line between humanizing Turandot’s world and highlighting its cruelty." - Opera Canada

"Wonderful chemistry." -Ludwig Van Montreal

"Well-charactered... welcomed lyrical relief." - OperaWire

"Formidably effective." - Le Délit

Bravo to soprano Andriana Chuchman, who closes her run of La traviata with the Canadian Opera Company.

Andriana returns to Violetta this season with both the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra (debut) in March, followed by a return to Vancouver Opera in May.

Read on for some of the critical acclaim for what is quickly becoming a signature role:

"Chuchman’s Violetta eschews histrionics in favour of a more inward, but not uncomplicated portrayal. She offers beautiful, lyric tone which is crucial for her long act 2 encounter with Germont, and her excruciating death scene in act 3. In the latter, she delivered “Addio del passato” with tone that is reminiscent of one of the role’s greatest interpreters, Ileana Cotrubas." - La scena musicale

"(Chuchman) gives a superb performance as someone who goes from a self-confident and independent woman to one who is deeply in love and gives up all to live in the country with her lover... Chuchman takes us through all those stages in her life with vocal splendor and emotional conviction... Chuchman's performance is a joy to watch and hear." - James Karas

"Chuchman’s singing was clear and lovely... (she) found greater emotional footing as Violetta, making us sympathize with a woman caught between her physical vulnerability and the social world that has defined her." - Ludwig Van Toronto

"Returning to the COC after her lovely Gilda last season was Canadian soprano Andriana Chuchman as an endearing Violetta.... She was at her best vocally and dramatically in the last act, singing a moving Addio, del passato" - Opera Canada

"Watching and listening to the vulnerability shown by Andriana Chuchman... I was reminded of soprano Ileana Cotrubas... Violetta is such a phenomenally difficult complex role... For Act II it’s much more about vulnerable acting... (this is) where Cotrubas totally slays me... and that’s what I heard from Andriana, where she mixes singing with speech, sounding a bit overwhelmed with emotion. OMG it works really well.. I was certainly blown away." - BarczaBlog
