Yesterday the dedicated, hard-working beautiful souls at @queeryouthccc made the first "Queer Prom" happen for 40+ youth in our area, including my kiddo & their friends.

My school proms sucked--they were boring, unimaginative and catered entirely to the straight, white, neuro-typical, able-bodied, "popular" teens only. This prom was what all of us queer weirdos wish we could have had growing up--the best DJ who played diverse music, a cool medieval fantasy theme that the youth chose, drag performances, a free raffle, taco and ice cream bar, photo booth, ASL interpretation, and best thing of all a safe calming sensory room with art supplies and dragon egg crafting.

Out of privacy for our youth I won't be showing any pics of my kiddo or anyone else, but just know that these teens and young adults had a blast--the sheer level of grins & squees will feed my heart for years to come. They felt loved, seen and had one of the best nights of their lives.

Milwaukie, Oregon has always had my heart because it is the home of Dark Horse Comics & Things From Another World, but while Dark Horse continues to spiral into the uncool (support Dark Horse Worker's Unionizing!), all around the DH offices incredibly awesome things are happening!

Showed my family around @youthera Milwaukie space today so that they too can be blown away by the work they are doing there to provide a safe space, resources, peer support, access to The Arts and a sense of community. They are the type of place desperately needed and valued but the community needs to continuously speak up for & fight to keep places like this open.

Stopped in our favorite bookstore @spokeandwordbooks, queer owned and the most inclusive & joyful book/gift store ever! Picked up some more pride flags for the home and an Anti-ice for good measure!

Then ended our day at @bsiderecords to support them after the break-in and pick up some cds and clothes. They do so so much for Milwaukie & are just the coolest folks around! Love this place so much.

How AuDHD affects Gen X females--exhaustion, brain shutdown, depression & anxiety. My limit working, being social, being in public, being upright is 3 to 4 hrs tops before I completely shutdown and have to rest in a dark quiet room. When I do more than that I am out of commission for days, anxious and barely able to move or talk properly. This is why I am really proud of myself that I continue to still show up for my family and community, working within the limits my body/mind will allow. Last week I organized and delivered around 20 bags of clothes, toiletries and food to 3 different amazing nonprofits. This week I made a bunch of centerpieces, prom decor and gathered raffle items for the Queer Youth Alliance's Queer Prom. It's really really bad some days/weeks for me, but I keep on keeping on.

Neurodivergents are Triggered Bad by 4th of July! Only 1pm and my neighbors are already letting off big booming fireworks and sparklers. My kiddo and I are just trying to enjoy our yard and do some gardening and we already have to wear headphones to keep the sound out.

I detest this holiday for so many reasons. We are suppose to celebrate our independence from British tyrants and yet we have an American tyrant ruling instead. The only thing I celebrate today is drag queens, Katya Zamolodchikova, queers, our trans community, neurodivergence, our BIPOC community and Making America Gay Again. But I do that with glitter and fashion, not trauma inducing lame fireworks!

In case you missed it, Roku was recently acquired by FOX (bye bye CNN & possibly Tubi) and Paramount aquired WB in a huge monopoly merger that Trump of course approved. David Ellison (along with his cronies) now own roughly 2/3rds to 3/4 of all US influential media, including TikTok, Paramount/CBS, WB and a large ownership stake in X. It will essentially give conservatives control of what is reported and "pushed" through algorithms to the nation/world.

Even more of a reason to utilize & financially support our beloved libraries & protect physical media. Not to give an old person "when I was a kid...better times" speech, I hate those so much and they aren't accurate, but I will say that as a Gen X I do recall life and how it all worked prior to the internet--you went to libraries for info and entertainment, promotion was done by word of mouth/newspapers & fliers, physical media was the only media, small public radio stations, in-person community meeting and events. We helped to create this system but we can also destroy it!

Just going to try & rest this weekend and work on stuff at home--I said to myself--clearly didnt happen! Juneteenth Oregon City festival, Midsommar Market at Dots (only got a pic with @xthepainterofdeadgirlsx LOL), and Father's Day with my husband and @notyourmom_182 at the @oregonfaire

Photo dump from the past couple weeks. Tabling at Canby Pride, Summer Connections Party where I won the local bookstore raffle, we built a cattio and we have been planting so many veggies and flowers. Our shaded grape covered chill out space turned out so nice I already spend most of my time in it.

Big thank you to @chamburnfarm & @oregoncitypride for organizing such a perfect day at the farm. I didn't take nearly enough pics but the gardens and all the animals were just beautiful and it was a little piece of heaven out there. Can't wait to go back soon!

Despite the huge amount of anxiety I get in the heat, I am super excited to head to the cutest LGBTQ+ farm @chamburnfarm tomorrow and then tabling at @canbypride for a bit with @uucwf . Going to bring all my sensory help and it's going to be so much fun!

My kiddo doesn't normally like their pic to be taken and especially not to post, so it is really wonderful of them to not only ok a pic but to allow me to share it (get that consent first parents).

I just want to congratulate my kiddo for graduating 8th grade today! Middle school is hard for most kids, but especially when you are neurodivergent with bad anxiety, queer and alternative, living in an area that is more rural conservative. I have been present when other kids have given Lil bitch face, laughed at them and yelled and pointed. Everything in me wants to go snap at these kids and school them on diversity and kindness, since their parents apparently don't, but I have to let Lillian fight her own battles in her way.

Lil is going to be going to an arts academy for high school though & the future looks bright. Just so proud of their resilience & wanting to continue with public school despite all of the hardships.
