It’s been three days since my wife surprised me with a birthday dinner, bringing together a few of my friends and family I never expected to see.

I’m deeply grateful for the blessing of an amazing wife, a loving family, and dependable friends.

Watching how Nigeria’s security situation has continued to worsen under the current government is deeply worrisome and disturbing, especially as the authorities seem to treat the issue with alarming levity.

I often think back to my experience in 2019, when I was kidnapped by these evil men. The moment I was taken into the bush, countless thoughts raced through my mind. I prayed that they were kidnappers seeking ransom and not organ harvesters or people who kill for pleasure. When they mentioned ransom, I felt an unexpected sense of relief.

Those four days in captivity were the most horrifying days of my life, an experience that still haunts me. I survived, but not without scars, both physical and emotional. I was beaten with a cutlass and they threatened to kill me if I missed the deadline for the ransom. The trauma remains with me till today. I would never wish such an experience on anyone, not even my worst enemies. Many people are not as fortunate as I was to come out alive.

Six years later, nothing significant has been done to address the situation, and the insecurity keeps getting worse. Watching videos of victims and hearing stories of those who never made it out alive breaks my heart and I thank God to have survived.

I pray that Nigeria finds a way out of this darkness but unfortunately, those in power are bothered about the next election and not the security state of the nation.
