POSTS STORIES REELS

It’s taken a hot minute to process everything since landing back from Uganda and Rwanda, we’re finally reflecting on an intensive 12-day ‘trip with purpose’ across East Africa and we’re still buzzing from the experience. 🇺🇬🇷🇼

Last month we headed to the Rwenzori Mountains to see the impact of our ongoing seedling project, a direct collaboration with @omwanicoffee and @agri_evolve to support the incredible producers behind the Bukonzo Dream coffee we have been roasting since 2022.

We talk a lot about sourcing ethics, so seeing the metrics Agri Evolve is driving on the ground is inspiring. This includes an average 119% increase in farmer income through increased training, quality and market access. Plus over 516,000 indigenous trees planted to build climate resilience.

We spent three intensive days based near Kasese, touring Agri Evolve’s impressive operation featuring sorting, washing, drying, farming, milling, composting and seedling nursery facilities plus a state-of-the-art QC lab where we were guided through cuppings of various lots, processes and profiles of coffee.

Our highlight was being hosted by the Kyanzababiri coffee farming group, led by their chairman John Bwambale, who demonstrated what our seedling project delivered. We were welcomed to the community with song, a presentation and a visit to the seedling nursery before demonstrating planting, training and financial management.

Through the project, Dear Green has donated 5,000 coffee tree seedlings, and this year, we added 5,000 shade tree seedlings to show our continued support and to meet agroforestry goals. 🌱

We have huge gratitude to the farmers of Kyanzababiri, the Agri Evolve crew, and James and LC of Omwani for facilitating a trip that reminded us exactly why we do what we do. 🤝✨

Mexico Sakubel. 🇲🇽

Sweet, balanced and seriously easy to love.

Fresh from the highlands of Chiapas, Sakubel is a beautifully balanced washed coffee grown by Indigenous smallholder farmers across the Los Altos region of Mexico.

Produced using traditional “rusticano” farming methods, it’s cultivated beneath native shade trees alongside crops like corn, beans and squash, helping to support biodiversity, soil health and long-term resilience within the communities who grow it. 🌱

In the cup, expect a clean, comforting brew with plenty of sweetness and balance. Dried fig, caramelised sugar, lime marmalade. The kind of coffee that’s easy to return to day after day. ☕️ 💚

Day 2 of Sarah and Danny’s London trip involved them getting to grips with grinders! ☕️

Equipment training at the @brew_it_group_official showroom, with a deep dive into what we can offer customers to suit them best. Huge thanks to Jim for sharing all the technical knowledge.

Also a flying visit to @batchbabycoffee , who had our Timor Leste on batch brew and retail alongside other Scottish roasters. A lovely little spot with great people. 💚

Sarah and Danny spent this afternoon in London with Anson, Sales Manager at @lamarzoccouk, getting the full La Marzocco story. History, heritage, and a proper deep dive into the entire equipment range.

Great to see the showroom first hand and learn more about the business and the machines. Time well spent, and lots of knowledge to bring back home.

Thanks Anson and the La Marzocco team. ☕️💚 by @deargreen

Last week was our final set of latte art classes for 2026, and what a way to finish. ☕️

Our groups took their coffee game to the next level, learning the ultimate texturising techniques, correct temperature and the secrets of steaming silky smooth micro foamed milk. Then the sessions culminated in pouring practice, with a heart, rosetta and stacked tulip all coached by our resident latte artist, Danny. Congrats to everyone who took part. 💚

Tickets for 2027 are available now. Link in bio. 🔗 by @deargreen

Over the past two weeks I have met some of the most wonderful people who have shared their knowledge and coffee journeys with me.

I’ve been exposed to people all across the value chain; producers, farm managers, researchers, agronomists, biochemists, green experts, roasters, drivers, consultants, packers, all of which are necessary for the industry to flourish.

Spending two weeks in Colombia, meeting producers, and experiencing first hand the challenges of growing coffee has given a new appreciation for the efforts that go into creating excellent quality in the cup.

Hundreds of years of knowledge, experimentation, and research is behind every cup of Colombian specialty coffee, alongside dozens of people behind the scenes, and the producers that dedicate themselves to improving the quality of their coffee. Without all of these factors, Colombian coffee wouldn’t be what it is today.

Special thanks to Omar from @cafeimports, the women of ASMUCAFE, Jairo from @banexport, Paola and her family at @patiobonito.coffee, and Miguel from @rawmaterial.coffee. All for being incredible and hospitable hosts, and for going over and above at every opportunity to ensure my experience was exceptional.

Thank you to everyone else along the way for giving me memories I won’t forget.

Alex

A winning night at the Glasgow Business Awards. 🏆

Last night, Dear Green picked up two accolades at the Glasgow Business Awards: Winner in Sustainable Development, and a Commendation for Green Champion. 🌱

The Awards are the city’s benchmark event for business excellence, leadership and innovation, so we’re absolutely delighted to receive these special honours.

The real highlight of the night though was our table… this was the first time in our 15 year history we’ve had a team large enough to fill one!

We have been on an incredible journey, growing from a solo passion project into a wonderful and dynamic team of coffee professionals. To share the moment together last night was very special indeed.🫶

We’re so proud of what we have achieved together, and we’re just getting started! Thanks to all of our customers and our supply chain partners for making this journey possible! Here’s to more nights like this. 🙌💚

London calling, and happy International Coffee Day. ☕

Yesterday, Lisa hopped on the train to London to join a panel at Caffe Culture (saving over 230kg of carbon on the journey compared to flying). 🌱

The session, ‘The Real Price of Coffee: How Value is Communicated’, unpacked the world of green coffee buying. How quality, pricing and value get determined, and how every purchasing decision ripples through the wider supply chain.

Caffe Insights was curated by Jon Townsend of Institute of Coffee, with the panel moderated by Siala of Elsewhere Coffee.

Bringing together perspectives from across the industry, and joined by Emma Haines (Algrano), Laura Elsa Mounier (Minga Coffee), Art Gosling (Goose Coffee Honk), the conversation explored how coffee businesses can make more informed decisions about what they buy and what they pay, and the value that creates further down the chain. It was great to meet so many like-minded people. 🥰

Away from the panel, Lisa visited the Brew It Group centre of excellence, caught up with the Omwani team and swapped notes with faces from across the trade. Good to see Scotland well represented too, courtesy of Chai Ovna (kilt and all 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿).

Lovely to catch up with coffee industry friends and to meet new ones: Siala, Ensembles Coffee, Institute of Coffee, Caffe Culture Show, MamaBearHaines, Laura Elsa Meunier, Art Gosling, Algrano, Minga Coffee, Elsewhere Coffee, Maniwa Coffee, Goose Coffee Honk, Omwani Coffee, Brew It Coffee, Strategy Coffee, Mreion, London School of Coffee, Coffeebird, Caffeine Kid, Pact, Probat, Giesen, Roastmaster Solutions, Chai Ovna, Jerry Lui and Difluid. 💚

Thanks too to Aïssatou of Ensembles Coffee and Jon of Institute of Coffee for sharing their content from the day. 📸
