While on the Island of Jeju, South Korea, and after the ceramic tour finished, some of us hired a driver to take us to various points of interest. Beginning with a walk through a section of the amazing Manjanggul Lava Tube formed over 100,000 years ago. Then onto the Haenyeo Museum - the legendary female free divers, some of which are still diving into their 80’s. Bijarim and Saryeoni Forests and the Bonte Museum - designed by Tadao Ando. taken in Jeju Island, South Korea 제주도 by @debbeywatson

It’s been an enjoyable and full on Korean ceramic tour with @marian_howell and @opulentjourneys these last 2 weeks. Sightseeing to various art museums etc and demonstrations/workshops with 3 celebrated ceramic artists. Starting in Seoul with a visit to Ms Bae Joo-hyun, then Icheon Ceramic Village where Master Wonjeong Lee demonstrated wheel throwing, inlay, sgraffito and cobalt painting. This was a 4 day workshop where we had time to practice what we learnt. Finally in Jeju Island where Mr Huangjong Oh demonstrated his mastery in Onggi making - traditional large storage vessels. All fascinating and generous teachers. We even had a traditional tea ceremony upon meeting Mr Oh. taken in Jeju Island, South Korea 제주도 by @debbeywatson

Another blanket finished. This one smaller than the others, suitable as a TV blanket. 6 large squares made from woollen jumper scraps. Challenging as usual as I muddled my way through. I enjoyed utilising the scraps and turning them into interesting designs. This one has a border around it and linen backing. taken in Sydney, Australia by @debbeywatson

Just finished sewing another blanket, this one for Steve. Once again using old woollen jumpers sourced from charity shops. I had all these woollen squares washed and felted from previous projects a few years ago. Only additions are the sections of small pieces sewn together. There is a lot of texture in this blanket. Some squares are so thick it was hard to sew on the machine. Should be pretty warm though. A large piece of linen fabric lines the back with hand sewn closed blanket stitch all around the edge and anchor points through both layers. Working on some cushions now with the leftover scraps of woollen jumpers. Nice projects to do in winter. taken in Sydney, Australia by @debbeywatson

Finally finished sewing my woollen blanket, made out of woollen jumpers sourced from charity shops. I tentatively started this project 13 years ago but got distracted by making a blanket for Rhiannon and then Toby. The arrival of my new Moroccan rug reignited my interest in finally making a blanket for myself, to go with the new rug. (I’m not so sure it actually does though 🤔) I’m not a frequent sewer and using my reliable old Elna machine, that must be over 70 years old, has been challenging and fun. I bought more jumpers, changed the concept of the blanket and included two images that remind me of Morocco. Lastly I hand sewed a closed blanket stitch right around the edge securing a large piece of linen fabric. I’m pretty happy with my blanket and it’s so cozy. taken in Sydney, Australia by @debbeywatson
