Here you go: This is the first part of "What I would never tell my daughters" - the English version of my "Daughters Text". Translating the original has taken me weeks of hard work. I wanted to transform the text's rhythm and rhymes into a version which is very close to my German way of writing poetry. This meant that I had to change some of the metaphors and words I originally use. Four kind-hearted, admirable, tremendously gitfted native speakers helped me with the exhausting process and I am extremely grateful for their help:
The Trinidadian author @lisaannejulien , the American voiceover @debbieirwinvo , the English spoken word artist @svenstears, and the digital coach @silvia_vandenberg. All of them are brilliant in their professions. I sent the first stanza to Sven and asked him for his opinion on the effect of language and content, because I wanted to really know if I am on the right track and the translation might work at all. Sven gave me the confidence to work on and some precious advice on language. Then I went into a deep literary exchange with Lisa-Anne who patiently went through nuances of language and meaning and answered my tons of questions as a non-native speaker. For the last four days @debbieirwinvo stepped in with her precious talent to structure and transform written thoughts into spoken words. She helped me to bridge the gap to my final vision of the English version. Together we shaped and shaped and shaped so many lines into their final form. Last but not least Silvia helped me patiently with all the digital issues. ❤️

This....um..."professional" group portrait from @worldvoicesorg WoVOCon Voiceover Unconference is the best, recent shot I could find of @debbieirwin and myself (are the green arrows too subtle)?

I highlight Mizzzz Irwin in this post because during the ah-mazing WoVOCon Voiceover Unconference, I made public mention that I felt I needed a bit of direction on my live announcing work --- these are the kinds of conversations you can have openly amongst fellow VO Pros in a circle of trust NOT available elsewhere.

Debbie made note of this and yesterday (weeks after WoVOCon) pinged me to discuss my request -- she had some terrific ideas.

Fresh perspective from her and me ready for the insights. That's mentoring....even after my 40+ years in VO, you're just never done learning.

You're just *done* if you think you're done learning. (You see what I did there?)

So grateful and humbled for Debbie sharing her expertise and professional generosity. Thank you Deb.

There are dozens of stories...dozens like mine, that are still being written from this unconference. No exaggeration.

I'm sorry if you missed the WoVOCon Voiceover Unconference this time, but for your own sake...don't make that mistake in 2025.
