#backtocollege - Update
Remember: question your stories!
My whole life I’ve told myself that I was just not good at math or calculating things.
Well, just took my first statistics exam and I actually understood the questions. 🤣 Turns out math is just something I never focused on. And honestly, I’m already finding several areas where statistics is useful in my life. I will never look at the median range of anything the same way again. Ha!!

Now I’m off to learn a basket full of David Bowie songs. (Yay) - performing with Mike Garson and Carmine Rojas this weekend up in Ventura.

You are always - and I mean… Always…
More than you think you are! 💜

Oh and PS: I studied my face off!! 🫠

PALM SPRINGS! My dear friend, the insanely talented Debby Holiday @debbyholiday is playing @purpleroompalmsprings this Friday and Saturday night, and I’ll be there Saturday!
A little Debby and Del history…
A couple of decades ago, the brilliant Levi Kreis @levikreis introduced me to Debby, and I am forever grateful he did (full story in video)
Debby went on to star as The Blues Singer in my play THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF A TRAILER TRASH HOUSEWIFE, giving a staggering performance - vocals and acting! Then she reprised her role on screen in BLUES FOR WILLADEAN, alongside the entire original award-winning play cast Beth Grant @bethgrantactor Octavia Spencer @octaviaspencer Dale Dickey, David Steen with music by Joe Patrick Ward @joepatrickward
So many memories. So much history. And so much ridiculous talent.
Now I get to sit back Saturday night at The Purple Room and watch my friend do what she does best. This time with a tribute to Tina Turner!
There are VERY FEW tickets left for Friday and Saturday, so grab them while you can at purpleroompalmsprings.com.
And watch to the end of the video for the flyer and all the details!
See you Saturday, Debby! ❤️

Just sending out a gentle nudge to anyone who has this feeling in their heart that they need to stretch out more. I don’t just mean physically, although that’s good, too. I mean mentally. Do a new thing. Fire and rewire a few neurons. Turns out it’s pretty damn fun. #BackToCollege #Neuroscience #WhoKnewStatisticsWasFun by @debbyholiday

Well, this was pretty much the song that got me signed to Warner Bros. many moons ago. Recorded in my garage, using two ADAT machines and 57 and 58 microphones hanging from the ceiling. Hey, we were crazy kids and that’s what we had! Ha!

I’m super excited about performing it again at @ultimatejamnight Tuesday, Sept 22 as

For years - this has been my favorite version of my dad's song, "Put A Little Love In Your Heart." In fact, in the intro of my acoustic version of PALLIYH on youtube - I actually mentioned how she was my absolute fave recording. More than 130 artists have recorded it. But, Dolly -- she just... meant it in a different "only Dolly" kinda way. And this cast she leads in song - makes my heart happy even while missing her being here with us.

Legend. Leader. Talent & Heart. Thank you for sharing your light with us all.

From My Songbook #4
“Secrets”

Continuing to share songs from my songbook!
This was written with @jeffedakmusic & the amazing, Orlando Sims. (RIP sweet friend)
Last night, I headed out with long time fam, @rev.tyronetaylor to see our brother, @iamchrispierce perform a beautiful set at the Pasadena Pavilion. After searching for the right spot — we put our blanket down right in front of… Orlando’s wife & son. Hugs & tears. Sometimes life just hands you a beautiful surprise.
Anyway, I woke up thinking about Orlando bringing this baseline to us. We knew we had to create from it. 💜

SECRETS
Words & Music: Debby Holiday/Jeff Fedak/Orlando Sims

Just up the street
On the corner down the way
A girl in a blue dress
Sits down to take
Some time to write
Her …feelings in red
But, Ink on paper
Gets torn to shreds
Cuz she refuses to reveal
All the pain that she really feels

So many secrets
Shadows on the wall
Love, if you keep it
Ain’t love at all
So pass it around
Take it down from the shelf
See before you love me or anybody else
You better learn - to love yourself

Up on the 2nd
Floor over the arcade
He spies her walking
By again
Desperate to have
A new friend in his life
But he always lets her
Float on by
Afraid to ever say hello
He learned to never let himself show …

So many secrets
Shadows on the wall
Love, if you keep it
Ain’t love at all
So pass it around
Take it down from the shelf
See before you love me or anybody else
You better learn - to love yourself

From My Songbook: #3
I’m Ready (ft. John Waite)

You never know why or when it will happen — but there seems to be a decent helping of happy interest in my song catalogue over the past month or so. Combined with that and the fact that I’ll be releasing a couple new singles soon - I thought I would share a few songs from my song book. One: to remind myself, hey, you write songs. And two: to remind fellow artists to keep creating and keep sharing. I think now more than ever, having an actual heart and spirit behind music is an important thread in the human fabric we’re weaving together.

Cheers to music making! 💫

This is from my double album: Free2B
Available on all streaming platforms

The Players:

John Waite — Special Guest Vocals
@jeffedakmusic — Guitars, Keyboards, Programming
@rodgercarterdrums — Drums
Jason Chesney — Bass
Debby Holiday & @bholleydrums & Darci Monet — Backing Vocals
Camilla Darling — Additional Programming

Writers: Debby Holiday & Jeff Fedak

Recorded at: @thedoghousestudio

I’m Ready

I’m done – feelin stupid
I’m done – feelin like I’m dead
I’ve run – head long into every wall
I feel like somethin’s broken – in my head
Tick tock that clock of life – is getting louder
I just gotta figure out a way to hold on

[Chorus]
So when the heartbreaks come along
I’m ready, I’m ready – To let them go
Cuz I can’t take it anymore
I’m ready, I’m ready
And, if you feel like I do
This Song is for you

If you got a hunger
That’s been burn in’ - up your veins
Flip Flop this Walk through life - is getting shaky
Sometimes you’re better off - standin’ back
And starting all over again ...

[Chours]
So when the heartbreaks come along
I’m ready, I’m ready – To let them go
Cuz I can’t take it anymore
I’m ready, I’m ready
And, if you feel like I do
This Song is for you…

Palm Springs - ya know how much I love ya & the @purpleroompalmsprings has become one of my all time favorite venues!!

These shows will include new songs I’ve never shared at the Purple Room! Tina standards of course, a lttle broadway, my original music & hopefully — a lot of joy!!

In fact, I’ve received special requests from several people asking for exactly that… Joy!

I’m so grateful to those of you who have reached out to let me know how my nights at the @purpleroompalmsprings Room have done precisely that — creates joy!! That’s no small thing to me.

Part of my responsibility as a singer/songwriter & performer is to connect. 🙏🏽💫 To join me Friday or Saturday - September 25 or 26th … head up to the links in my bio. 💜

From My Songbook: Half A Mile Away

I wrote this song in 2004. In 2005, it became a dance hit and went to #7 on the Billboard Dance chart. Thank you @scotticenogle for hearing this version and somehow, knowing it would sound great as a remix!!

This is the original song recorded while signed to Warner Brothers — a big, emotional ballad.

And somehow, 22 years later, I just placed it with a new publisher - yesterday!!!

Some songs really do have lives of their own. ❤️

The players: @clifmagness, Abe Laboriel jr,
Bryan Corbett, Orlando Sims, @jeffedakmusic
Producer: @clifmagness
engineered by: @steve.griffen

Songwriters: Debby Holiday & Bryan Corbett

Recorded at Royal Tone Studios
& Hollywood Recorders
