I can't believe "one, one thousand..." has already been on view for two months at the Off Broadway Gallery in Boulder, Colorado. July 31 is the final day to see my immersive exhibition about long-term family care. DM me for a personal walkthrough. Today I'm excited to have lead with @olive.j.20, Associate Curator @arvadacenter. The responses from viewers confirm the importance of showing this work. My nephew, David, is nonverbal, has severe #autism and is diagnosed with #lennoxgastautsyndrome. When my sister, @lorisandler and I presented the work at the church, we learned afterward that an elderly woman leaned to the person next to her and said she has #eplipsy. She had never told anyone. There is a stigma in our society, a fear. She released that fear on that day. We were wowed and grateful to tell our story and share the work. Aligning Vision, Voice & Intuition - A Fine Art Photography Residency Applications are open through September 7th. Last year, I spent two months in a self-led residency at a 19th-century farmstead in a bucolic village in Northern Portugal. Just off the Caminho de Santiago, the space and vibe were magical. I gave myself unhurried time to reconnect with myself and to experiment freely with my work. No rules. No deadlines. I learned to listen to my intuition, let go of doubt, and create a new body of work using mediums I had not used before. That work is now on view in a solo exhibition at the Off Broadway Gallery in Boulder, Colorado. It was a profound experience and the Orto team asked me back to lead this residency. Come join me in this magical, nurturing setting for two weeks to reset, rejuvenate, and create. Enjoy homemade farm-to-table food and the company of artists and thinkers from around the world. The residency culminates in an open atelier attended by the public and local art community. As an instructor, mentor, interdisciplinary artist, and co-author of “Both Sides of the Table: Photography Portfolio Reviews Do’s & Don’ts,” I meet photographers where they are in their practice, supporting them in their individual needs. Artists have ample time for personal reflection, studio time, single and group portfolio critiques, guided meditation, and excursions culminating with an open atellier attended by the public and local art community. I was honored to be interviewed by Frank Meo on his PROJECTIONS platform during a walkthrough of my “one, one thousand…” solo exhibition at the Off Broadway Gallery in Boulder, Colorado. You can watch the recording on YouTube - link in bio. “one, one thousand…” is an intimate portrait of maternal devotion, lifelong family care, and questions consciousness beyond ourselves. It highlights my sister @lorisandler’s courage as she cares for David, her adult, nonverbal son with a rare, incurable epilepsy and severe autism. We cannot know what he perceives or experiences. Healers suggest he may be a guide, a master, a healer helping others in different realms. We believe them. Lori is a writer, speaker and life coach for parents of children with disabilities. FREE VIRTUAL EVENT: I’m thrilled to be a presenter on Frank Meo’s PROJECTIONS @frankmeo8945 this Wednesday, online at 7pm ET. I’ll lead a walkthrough of my solo exhibition, "one, one thousand…," which is on view in Boulder, Colorado, at the Off Broadway Gallery through July 31st. The immersive installation includes large-scale works on denim and crepe de chine, cyanotypes, site-specific photographic sculptures, and hand-cut mixed-media The project is an intimate portrait of maternal devotion, lifelong family care, addressing awareness of telepathy and consciousness beyond ourselves. It’s about my sister’s courage, @lorisandler, in caring for her adult non-verbal son who lives with a rare, incurable form of epilepsy and severe autism. We don’t know what he sees, thinks, or feels.
