So This Happened (145) reviews Super Eagles exit from AFCON, man's apology to JAMB for exam malpractice 21 years ago, other

In this episode of So This Happened, we reviewed the exit of Nigeria's Super Eagles from the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

Super Eagles lost 1-0 to Tunisia in their Sunday encounter in the AFCON Round of 16.

Talk of restitution, a man identified as Mr Timipade Kemepade, who wrote JAMB 21 years ago has sent an apology letter to the Board for being involved in examination malpractice years back. Kemepade blamed youthful exuberance for his misconduct.

Lastly, we reviewed the story of five-year-old Hanifa who was abducted and killed by her school proprietor. A similar fate befell eight-year-old Asma'u, who was abducted and killed by her neighbour in Kaduna State despite collecting N3m ransom.

I had to film this myself because this seafood fried rice from MaMarazzi is too delicious not to share! 🤤🔥

The beginning might look a little different 😂, but please focus on the food because WOW! Every bite was packed with flavour, and I genuinely enjoyed it. 🦐🍚❤️

MaMarazzi, you understood the assignment! 👏🏽

Have you tried their seafood fried rice yet? 😋

If we haven’t met here before, hi, I’m Adebimpe, I’m a Brand & Marketing Communications professional, storyteller, and customer experience enthusiast with a background in journalism, media, digital content and brand strategy.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work across different sides of communication from telling stories in the newsroom, building communities, creating digital content, developing brand campaigns, working with influencers and partnerships to creating experiences that make customers feel seen and valued.
And one thing I’ve learned?
A great brand is not only what people see, It’s what they experience, remember, and say about you when you’re not in the room.
I’m currently exploring more deeply at the intersection of Brand, Customer Experience, Marketing and
Communications and I’m excited about where this chapter is taking me, believe me, I’m very creativeeeee and Proactive.
So, here’s to sharing more of what I’m learning, the mistakes I’m making, the wins I’m celebrating and the conversations I’m having along the way.
If you’re new here, welcome.
If you’ve been here for a while, thank you for staying.
Let’s connect. There’s a lot more to come.

I just found a spot where your billboard would have more attention than you planned for.

Hey Guys, let’s talk Marketinggggggg.🎉

It’s funny to say that I found it while sitting in traffic for almost 3 hours, I was stuck along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway from around 7up (toll gate) inwards Berger/ Opic and I started noticing there were billboards everywhere, we the audience weren’t moving, we were sitting there and that got me thinking:

What if brands started treating this traffic as an advertising opportunity? Normally, you drive past a billboard in a few seconds, but when you’re stuck in traffic for 1, 2 or 3 hours, you’ve suddenly got something marketers are always fighting for which is. ATTENTION!!!

So I’m not here to only say I noticed billboards but one thing that will make it stand out is if brands rework their messaging to speak to what people are experiencing right there and then?

Imagine @mtnng bill board says “Since Lagos has decided we’re staying here, here’s something to keep you connected”

@chickenrepublic Chicken Republic says “You’ve been in this traffic for 2 hours. You deserve better than going home hungry”

@fruitylifengr FruityLife Says
“Traffic is already hot,at least your juice can be chilled”

@bolt_nigeria Bolt Says
“Next time, let someone else drive”

@naijaonnetflix Netflix says
“You’re not moving, your watchlist can”

@piggyvest PiggyVest says
“Your money doesn’t have to be stuck just because you are”

PS: These aren’t campaigns from these brands it’s just examples of how contextual OOH advertising could work.

Anyway, that’s my unsolicited marketing tip from today’s 3 hour board meeting called Lagos traffic.

If you were running a brand right now, would you take advantage of this? And if you’re a marketer what would you do differently? And do you find this insightful?

I really thought I could clock out of work and stop thinking like a marketer but apparently, there’s no clocking out of marketing brain. 😂

And honestly? I love it.

Because I think the best marketers aren’t only marketing when they’re at work, they’re constantly observing, questioning, connecting ideas and studying people.

Marketing has become the lens through which I see the world and maybe that’s how you know you’ve found something you genuinely love. taken in Marketing by @debiimpe

@uber left Nigeria after 12 years!!! Hey guys, let’s talk marketing 😁
As much as this is sad news for the Nigerian mobility ecosystem, there’s something else I’m watching closely as a marketer.

1. What happens next?
I’ve noticed @indrive.ng intensifying its marketing almost immediately, including leveraging personalities like @asherkine to stay culturally relevant and strengthen its visibility.
Whoshhhhh! I was elated when I saw it, their marketing manager deserves a raise because that’s smart, like the timing is mind blowing.
When a major competitor exits a market, the next thing to do is to fight for the space they left behind. And this is where marketing becomes more than advertising and the brands that will win this next phase will be the ones that can
1. Capture attention quickly : make sure former Uber users know why they should consider you.
2. Understand the switching customer: what did Uber users love? What frustrated them? What would make them switch permanently? I can even pay gossipmill to make a post asking people (indirect survey) believe me it pays in marketing.
3. Own the cultural conversation : this is where creators, influencers and culturally relevant personalities can be powerful.
4. Strengthen the customer experience: marketing can bring customers in, but the experience determines whether they stay. On this, indrive is doing a great job where by you can directly see the drivers account number and also set a fixed price which remains constant from the beginning of the trip till the end, but I personally think I’d prefer to pay more if my security is guaranteed so Indrive needs to make customers feel safe by working on a security feature on their app, something totally different from @bolt_nigeria in app security feature.
5. Win both sides of the marketplace: riders matter, but so do drivers. (This advice is specially for indrive🤣) eradicate all do yen yen yen vehicles
6. Build preference, not just awareness: being the available alternative is different from becoming the preferred alternative (Competitive strategy)
‼️MULTIPLE CAPTION PLEASE SWIPE‼️

So yes, Uber has left but the real battle begins! Who is going to fight for Number 1? by @debiimpe
