👗We’re frocking up this Frocktober!👰‍♀️
As part of our Inconvenient Women exhibition, on Sunday October 4, at around 11:30am, we’re conducting our own ‘wedding’ procession through Eltham — not only to showcase the collaborative dress the community has been decorating, but to also raise funds for crucial ovarian cancer research.

🚺 The current five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer patients sits at just 49%. There is no early detection test, and treatment options haven’t improved significantly in decades. One member of our group lost her mother to disseminated ovarian carcinoma, making this cause particularly close to our hearts.

💕Please support our shocking wedding frocks with a donation, big or small. Every contribution helps fund vital research through the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation and gives us a good reason to frock up and make a spectacle of ourselves through the streets of Eltham!

Google FROCTOBER and search then INCONVENIENT WOMEN to contribute. 💕

🖼️🪡’The Glass Ceiling’.
Germaine Greer (b. 1939) is an Australian writer, academic and one of the most influential feminist thinkers of the twentieth century. Her groundbreaking book The Female Eunuch (1970) became a defining text of second-wave feminism. In recent years, however, Greer has been widely criticised for her views on transgender women, prompting protests against her public appearances and renewed debate about her place within contemporary feminism.

🧵The People’s Princess (Embroidery floss on cotton/linen)🪡

👑 Diana, Princess of Wales (1961–1997), became known as ‘the people’s princess’ for her compassion, accessibility, and humanitarian work. Her willingness to embrace ordinary people, challenge royal traditions, and speak openly about personal struggles made her beloved worldwide. However, her independence, media influence, and outspoken nature often unsettled the royal establishment, with conspiracy theorists suggesting this led to her death while being pursued by paparazzi.

🖼️ This piece is sold, but still on show at Eltham Library Community Gallery until the end of October, along with 45 other artworks acknowledging Inconvenient Women.

Revealing Manet’s Muse is sold, but there’s still around 40 artworks by five artists to view…. 🖼️🧵

Victorine-Louise Meurent (1844–1927) was a French painter and musician, best known as the favourite nude model and muse for artist Édouard Manet. ‘Self-Portrait’ (c. 1876) offers a rare opportunity to see the artist as she chose to present herself, rather than through the male gaze. This work was exhibited at the prestigious Paris Salon in 1876 – the same year Manet's submission was rejected. Here, the artwork is embellished with embroidery floss, bringing Victorine into a new century with a new appreciation.

Book-mail! Postman finally brought me my copy of this, and it’s hard to photograph the spot gloss UV on the lettering and squares (printed on the reverse side of the board), so you’re just going to have to believe me 😆 Goes well with my painting by Clair Brenner though!! And what lovely light we’re getting this time of year in the late afternoon!

Thank you to all the lovely people who came to the Stitch Up workshop today, as part of our Inconvenient Women exhibition at the Eltham Library Community Gallery.

🧵 Participants stitched words to add to the collaborative wedding dress installation, and it’s coming together beautifully ❤️ But if you missed out today, there’s still plenty of time to contribute to the artwork. Just pop into the library, grab a piece of fabric from the basket, then return it when you’ve added your message at home.

Let’s see if we can fill the dress up with words (with no white left) before the exhibition closes on October 25th 👰‍♀️🖼️🪡

Don’t freesias smell glorious?! I remember the first time I smelt them when I was four. We had just moved to NZ and we’re renting a house by a river - I can vividly remember the smell of them growing wild along the banks.
