A coastal town in Florida, where everything seems perfect. The women are the homemakers, effortlessly making sourdough while taking care of the children, all in heels with perfectly applied makeup. The men are the providers, loyal to their families and providing for their lifestyles. But there are crack beneath the perfect exteriors. There are secrets that are kept from spouses and friends, some of which can be deadly. When the cracks start coming to the surface, tragedy happens and all the secrets they kept will come to light.

This story is told from the perspective of three women, each in a different stage of the "tradwife" life. I really enjoyed the multiple point of view as it really kept the story going. I also liked how distinct each woman's voice and storytelling was. The book starts with a dead body on the beach, but you will have to keep reading to figure out who it is, which honestly, I didn't guess! I feel like this is a great book for those who enjoy thriller and mystery books, or even just seeing that the "perfect life" that you see on social media may not be that perfect after all!

Shattered Sea by @catherinecowlesauthor

Shattered Sea is the fourth book in the Tattered & Torn series by Catherine Cowles. I was a little hesitant if I was going to like this book going in because this is the first book in a series by Catherine that I have read that the main characters were direct relatives to the main family of the story. But with her uncanny ability to make friends into found family, it didn't feel like they weren't directly related. I really liked Laiken's character, a great example of a strong FMC even with her traumatic past. I also liked how Boden wasn't just a typical Hollywood actor but had a lot of depth to him and his back story. They definitely had the slow burn trope down for this book, but when they burned it was just soooo good! Once again though, I was duped, I am not sure how she does it, but I can never guess the villain correctly! I am excited to move onto the fifth and finally book in the series next!

Laiken thought she knew years ago how her life would turn. She could picture the wedding, the house, the kids all with her high school boyfriend. That is until one tragic night ripped away the future she thought she would have and leave her changed for life. Years later the emotional and physical impacts of that night take a toll on her and everyone else involved in the accident. Boden came to Wolf Gap for a respite and to heal from the untimely passing of his girlfriend six months prior. It doesn't help that Boden is also a big Hollywood actor, which means staying out of the public eye is even harder. He came for the respite and to work on his next big movie, what he didn't expect was to fall for the Gallery manager with pain behind her eyes that matches his. He is unable to tear himself away and as they spend more time together, they grow closer. But when danger comes for Laiken and threatens their future, Boden will do anything to keep her safe, even if it means risking himself.

💌 Book Delivery 💚

Had the absolute best package make it's way to my doorstep today!!! This absolutely gorgeously wrapped blind date with a book from @junipersbookishartboutique !!! I loved reading all the descriptions and picking out a surprise book. And look at all the goodies that came with it! Bookmarks, stickers, even stickers specifically for our Hype Squad! My book turned out to be The Spellshop, which has been on my tbr for a long time now, and look at those pretty purple edges! 😍 And of course I couldn't pass up adding on a Long Island Reader tote bag! Five college friends stay at a beach house post graduation, and make a pact, to return every summer to the same beach house and enjoy their friendships. With a little caveat, after an unexpected departure of one friend due to a bad break up, no dating anyone in the group. An easy rule to follow, unless you are Everett and Sutton, who spent the night together before the rule was even thought of. It would be simple enough to leave it there, but Everett and Sutton cannot seem to help themselves and break the rule over and over again, without their friends ever knowing. That is until one summer the secrets come out and everything, including the group, blew apart. Now five years later the gang is all together again, to cheer up their recently divorced friend. They have all kept in touch, except for Everett and Sutton, who have steered clear of each other since the horrible parting of ways five years ago. Can the group move on and forget the past, or is it destined to repeat itself?

I enjoyed this book and the way it touched on the tricky dynamic of keeping college friends when real life gets in the way. When they were reunited after those five years apart, everyone is at a different place with different priorities, which felt very accurate to real life. For me the bickering and miscommunication got a little tedious, not that I couldn't see it happening in real life, I definitely could, but for me that would mean leaving the trip early 😂. I would have liked a little more of the friend dynamics besides Laurel, Everett and Sutton to brought to the front because I personally felt no investment in Davi and Gabe being friends within the group. Overall though a great story of how friendships change and become less or more at different stages of our lives.

It has been a while since I have picked up a mystery book and since I have a few on my never ending TBR I decided it was time.

A Sea of Unspoken Things is about a woman, James, returning home to uncover the secrets and mystery around her twin brothers, Johnny, death. James had left their town when she was accepted into an out of state college and never looked back. She left behind her brother, friends, and a dark secret. Returning to her hometown feels empty and dark without her brother, who she always shared a deep connection with, something that doesn't seem to be changing with his death. But when uncovering what actually happened to her brother, James realizes there is more than just the secret she kept all those years ago surrounding his death, and they are all about to come into the light.

This book was very moody and atmospheric, which is something I love when it comes to a mystery book. Add in the heavy influence of nature and dark secrets it was hard to put this story down. I loved the slight magical realism in this story, especially relating to her bond with her brother. I will say it was definitely hard to guess who it was, and even when I did, I didn't know how the story would get there. Definitely a read I would recommend if you are looking for a moody mystery with just a hint of magical realism. by @debs.lit.life
