@pinpincam opened a box of photographs from the early 1990s that she forgot even existed and found the starting inspiration of everything she’d make later 🎬 Before her films, there was a young woman with a camera, walking around Singapore and crashing furniture fairs, matchmaking events and Istana open houses. Now those pictures are on show in Singapore Index at @sipfsg . We sat down with her to talk about it.   The festival is SG Culture Pass eligible and is live and ready for you to explore. 🌴🐦‍⬛Passing by Paradise🔥🌴 Join our outdoor photo-audio walk along site-specific photo installations in Geylang Dorothy Wong Ka Chung and Benjamin Ryser developed this project as part of their DECK Artist-in-Residence programme from June to July 2026. It was based on community research in collaboration with Geylang residents. Is home to be found in a coffee shop? In the taste of canned fried dace with salted black beans? Or in the ringing of an old telephone? People say those who come to Geylang are searching for something. The residents of Geylang shared with us snippets of their lives growing up here: of romantic encounters in a soya milk stall; of craving a childhood comfort food late at night; of the distant home still under construction; of two trees at dusk, sheltering hundreds of crows; of sailing across the South Seas in search of a place to settle; of souls that had to walk 18 kilometres to return to their beautiful homeland; of business encounters in coffee shops and at street corners. In the alleys and on the main streets, we heard and saw others’ stories of home. 🌴🐦‍⬛Photo-audio Walk🐦‍⬛🌴 📅 23,25,31 Oct. & 6,7 Nov. 2026 🕓Time slots start from 4:00/ 4:20/ 4:40/ 5:00/ 5:20PM ⏳Estimated duration 1.5 hrs 📍Starting point Shop—House by DECK ✨ 🎧Please bring your own mobile phone with mobile data and earphones. 🔥Register here / via SIPF LinkTree https://www.eventbrite.sg/e/passing-by-paradise-photo-audio-walk-tickets-2002413673200 We would like to invite you to join the photo-audio walk, Passing by Paradise. Using your own phone and headphones and following the storyteller’s voice, you stroll through Geylang’s Lorongs, streets and back alleys. You will hear stories and sounds created in collaboration with Geylang residents. Along the way, you will discover photographic installations in local shops, homes and public spaces that transport your imagination deeper into the neighbourhood. Where is the place where we can grow our roots? Can you find the secret code leading to paradise? 🌴🐦‍⬛Photo-audio Walk🐦‍⬛🌴 📅 23,25,31 Oct. & 6,7 Nov. 2026 🕓Time slots start from 4:00/ 4:20/ 4:40/ 5:00/ 5:20PM ⏳Estimated duration 1.5 hrs 📍Starting p by @deck_sg
Still in complete shock—thrilled to share that I took home the Junior Winner title at the 10th Singapore Young Photographer Award (SYPA)! 📸🏆 Huge shoutout and heartfelt gratitude to @deck_sg @hongleongfoundation @camerarentalcentre.sg @nikonsg @scapesg @cdl_sustainability and @cdlsypa for providing such an incredible platform for young creatives. Programs like this make a world of difference for youth photographers trying to find their voice. Also thank you to @itece_photographyclub for always supporting me and always being behind my back and never giving up on me. Here is the title and story behind this series: *The Fabric of a Neighborhood* Amid Singapore’s relentless rush, Chinatown’s everyday street rhythm is where home truly lingers for me. This series explores that fading energy through three lenses: still life, portraiture, and architecture. I started simply with ordinary pink plastic bags hanging off a window grille. Moving inside, I photographed the older generation keeping our raw heritage alive: the intense focus of a traditional tailor, a street cobbler under his umbrella, and the close-up details of a handmade Chinese instrument. I wanted to capture the quiet, unvarnished dignity of daily survival here, from a heritage cook over a steaming turtle soup pot to the fragile, outstretched hand of a blind tissue seller. My sequence ends looking up at the massive red block of People’s Park Complex. It stands as a giant structural anchor for these human stories, holding ground against a rapidly changing cityscape. To everyone who supported me along the way, left a comment, or took the time to look at my work—thank you so much! It means the world. 🙏❤️ by @deck_sg
