Earlier this year, Decrim NY writer and organizer Kali Coleman shared a piece on @truthout about the concrete steps that can be taken to make New York City a safer place for migrants and migrant s*x workers.

This still applies today, in fact - the time to act is NOW with comprehensive legislation ready for advocacy in both city and state.

“Though the mayor cannot rewrite state law, his forthcoming administration has an opening to demonstrate that when he says he speaks for the city’s 3 million immigrants, he means migrants of all professions – an opening to protect those at the ledge of precarity, workers whose human rights are assailed along multiple vectors. In practice, Mamdani can discontinue policies like Operation Restore Roosevelt, and he can make good on promises to follow the direction of Brooklyn and Manhattan District Attorneys in minimizing s*x worker arrests. He can hold firm to rhetoric that unequivocally supports the need for rights, not rescue, and he can unambiguously endorse the decriminalization movement.”

Why the Cecilia Gentili Law (A.3251 / S.2513) is the only path to true safety. 🏳️‍⚧️✨

Advocating in Albany isn’t just about presence; it’s about precision. During my meetings with Assemblymember Ron Kim and Senator Julia Salazar’s office, I emphasized that we need comprehensive decriminalization, not partial models.

Why A.3251 is different:

• It’s not just about us: By decriminalizing clients and support networks (Promotion/Permitting), we stop the police from using “loopholes” to arrest sex workers for simply working together or sharing a space.

• Economic Justice: It provides automatic sealing of past convictions, removing barriers to housing and stable employment.

• Proven Results: Decriminalization reduces violence. In other states, it led to a 31% drop in reported rapes because we can finally call the police without fear of handcuffs.

We are honoring Cecilia Gentili’s legacy by fighting for a law that recognizes our dignity, our safety, and our right to exist without state surveillance.

Today I went to the New York statehouse to lobby for Cecilia’s Act in coalition with @oldprosonline @decrimny @decrimsexwork @equalitynewyork @maketheroadny @woodhullfreedom @theishtarcollective and many others 🤍 Cecilia’s Act would decriminalize s3x work in New York. Named for Cecilia Gentili, activist, mother of the movement, icon, who shaped this law and dedicated her life to the community and movement.

Tag your elected officials to let them know their constituents support us 🌻
