A Love Letter to Papa
Pa, my heart is broken.

You were the only man I ever had in my life.
Who am I going to video call now when I need help fixing my scooter? “Pa, how do I change the shower hose?”
“Come to Bali, Pa. Help me fix the house.”

The little things like that now feel so much bigger.

Everyone knew Papa as a pilot.
But to me, you were simply the father I could always count on. You always knew how to help, how to fix things, and somehow, how to find a way through.

Maybe it was because you were always there that I learned to be independent. I became brave enough to face so many things on my own because, deep down, I always knew that if I ever needed you, you would be there.

It has been so hard to accept this reality over the past two months. As time goes by, I have learned to accept it. This is the path God has chosen for you. Just as you always taught me, I will keep putting my faith in Him.

Papa will always be remembered not only as a captain, but also as a writer. Your decades of service as a captain were such an important part of your life, just as the words you left behind will continue to live on. But your greatest legacy is not just what you left behind on paper.

It is in the countless people who came to stand beside us, to comfort us, and to help us with a love and kindness that never stopped, even until your very last moments.

Now I understand that the goodness you gave throughout your life never truly disappears. It lives on in the people whose lives you touched. That is your greatest legacy, and it is something we will carry with us forever.

Pa, I let you go with all my heart.
I trust that God has prepared a new path and many blessings beyond this life.

Pa, thank you for fighting so hard.
You can rest now, peacefully, and return to the loving arms of Opa and Oma.

Your work here on earth is now complete.

Your final resting place is surrounded by your “fellow pilots.” Isn’t that what you always wanted, Pa? From there, airplanes will keep crossing the sky, as if they are flying past just to say hello.

Fly high, Pa.

Keep soaring through the skies,
forever.

One day, we’ll sit together in the cockpit again.

I’ve been practicing at @lumayogastudios lately, and it’s become one of my favorite places to slow down, reconnect, and simply be present. Every class has a different intention, so I can choose what my body needs that day instead of forcing myself through another workout.

If you’ve been curious about trying yoga, I hope this gives you that little nudge. 🤍
