Kurinuki
Kurinuki is a traditional Japanese hand-building pottery technique meaning “to hollow out,” where a solid block of clay is carved and sculpted into a functional vessel. Rather than adding clay or using a potter’s wheel, the artist relies entirely on a subtractive process of cutting, scraping, and digging.

The Process
* Start Solid: Begin with a solid, well-wedged block of clay shaped into a rough geometric form like a cube, sphere, or cylinder.
* Hollow the Interior: Use loop tools, knives, or gouges to carve out the inside cavity, leaving thick walls and a sturdy base.
* Carve the Exterior: Shape the outer walls by slicing facets, peeling strips, or carving textures with wires and wooden tools once the clay reaches a leather-hard state.
* Refine the Base: Turn the piece over to carve a deliberate foot ring or base design, ensuring the vessel sits steadily and feels balanced.

Aesthetics and Philosophy
* Raw Textures: Surfaces often feature crisp knife edges, spiral tool marks, and organic asymmetries that highlight the maker’s hand.
*
* Wabi-Sabi: Embraces imperfection, natural forms, and the meditative, slow pace of creation over mass-produced uniformity.
*

Art Exhibition teasers 3
MAY 2026
“PERFECTLY IMPERFECT”

Perfection is the state of being complete, faultless, and of the highest possible quality or excellence, often representing an ideal or standard that cannot be bettered, though it’s also a subjective concept, a common goal in art/life.

IMPERFECT Vs PERFECTION
Imperfect perfection” is a paradoxical concept celebrating beauty in flaws, suggesting true perfection isn’t flawlessness but embracing imperfections, like the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, finding completeness in incompleteness, and recognizing that flaws make things unique and beautiful, fostering growth and self-acceptance. It’s about seeing value in weaknesses and accepting the “glorious mess” of life, not settling for mediocrity. #art #ceramics #wabisabi #imperfect #ai by @deecyful

THE SONG
Madonna’s 1990 hit “Vogue” is an empowerment anthem celebrating self-expression, escapism, and the transformative power of the dance floor, inspired by the underground NYC ballroom subculture. It encourages shedding inhibitions, adopting an air of glamorous confidence (“striking a pose”), and finding authenticity through performance … This goes for any creative art activity in my opinion !!!

THE SONG - “Sanctuary Space” Is “Sleeping Orchards “ New single. Check out @sleepingorchard

A Dreamy romantic song I recorded on cassette, trying to stop myself taking it too far every step of the way.

They key for this one was capturing a dreamlike, romantic atmosphere and a largely intimate production/arrangement, moving to a large swelling orchestration IF and when the time came. I didn’t start with much of a plan, apart from recording the guitar part I’d made into an SM58 as a demo, with improvised arrangement, and then leaving it two weeks to come back and finish the rest of the recording.

I hope you like it. “Sleeping Orchard. “ Will.

THE ARTIST - The listener is drawn into sleepy bluesy folk music with an added twist of psychedelia that brings to mind the early days of Pink Floyd.”

“Rootsy psychedelia that combines vintage San Francisco-style guitar work (including plenty of tasteful instrumental breaks) with a hippyish, organic vibe that’s quite different.”
Music available on most streaming platforms. @Spotify @Amazon Music #newmusic #newsong #song #indie

LYRICS

The writer sows abstract thoughts in paper fields
Though unintelligible, they carry meaning.

and no one knows by the last twelve-thirty show
What the actor thinks about the actress.

Let me fetch my pen and take to the stage again,
Be my audience in your front-row fashion

I might just catch your eye in the amber candlelight
Flicker back and forth, our enamoured gaze.

Blessed auditorium,
Succumb to weakness in our sanctuary space
In love’s reverberation

Back at home, our iconic village sign,
faded, overgrown, never lost its purpose.

Now I may take a little time to find the phrase,
But for all my days, I’m yours.

Blessed auditorium,
Succumb to weakness in our sanctuary space
In love’s reverberation

“Sunshine on My Shoulders” (sometimes titled simply “Sunshine”) is a song recorded and co-written by American singer-songwriter John Denver. It was originally released as an album track on 1971’s Poems, Prayers & Promises and later, as a single in 1973. It went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. in early 1974. #johndenver #sunshine #himleyhall #himleypark #nature by @deecyful
