Helm will discuss her lyrical and haunting debut novel, Our Cut of Salt, a story of three generations of Palestinian women confronting the ghosts of their ancestral home—and the buried secrets that bind them together. As the women reckon with family history, displacement, memory, and loss, the novel explores the enduring ties between people and place, and what happens when the past refuses to stay buried. Deena Helm is a mixed Palestinian-American author, and Our Cut of Salt is her debut novel. Her other works can be found in Fikra Magazine and So To Speak.
