September 8, 2026. Siena, Italy. Our engagement photos are finally here, and somehow they captured something I’m not sure words ever quite could. The softness. The joy. The way I feel when I’m beside this man. To be loved by Mabrouk is to be loved exactly as I am—every complicated, passionate, ridiculous, tender part of me. I feel seen. I feel valued. I feel beautiful. But more than anything, I feel safe. So incredibly safe. There is something extraordinary about finding a love where you don’t have to perform or shrink or become anything other than who you already are. You can simply exist inside it. And somehow, it feels both wildly exciting and like coming home. Mabrouk is one of the kindest, most generous, deeply good humans I have ever known. The way he moves through the world, the way he loves, the way he cares for the people around him—I still sometimes look at him and think, how did I get to find you? And there we were, in the middle of the Tuscan countryside, beginning the next chapter of this completely unexpected life together. I have no idea exactly what all of it will look like. You can be wildly successful… and completely misaligned. Today I recorded a short keynote based on the ideas from the book I’ve been writing for the past three years. It’s about the moment many of us eventually face…when the life that looks “right” on the outside stops feeling true on the inside. For almost 50 years I did everything the way I was supposed to. Career. Marriage. Stability. And then I realized I had been performing a life instead of living my truth. This video is a small glimpse of the keynote I’m developing based on the book and the conversations I hope to bring to stages, conferences, and communities about alignment, healing, and conscious leadership. A little Italy photo dump… because apparently getting engaged wasn’t enough excitement for one trip. 🇮🇹💍✨ I’ve been home for a few days, but re-entry came with my traditional post-travel cold AND several hours in the ER making sure I hadn’t broken or stress-fractured my foot after walking approximately ALL of Italy. 😂 Thankfully, just a sprain. My 55-year-old body has some thoughts about this lifestyle. But my heart? Would do it all again. Every single time. This trip was only two weeks after my student visa was denied, but somehow those two weeks held SO much life. Time with the beautiful friends I’ve made in Florence. Ordinary mornings and evenings with Mabrouk. Incredible food, long walks, laughter, love. And one of my favorite full-circle moments: my bestie Elizabeth came from Rome to spend a few days with us. She’s the reason I went to Italy in the first place — I was actually on my way to see her when a chance encounter on a train platform changed my entire life. And then… Tuscany. September 8. 💍 The moment we chose forever. Thank you to every single person who has celebrated our engagement with us. The comments, messages, calls and love have meant more than you know. ❤️ Of course, underneath all this joy is the hard part. Loving someone who lives 6,200 miles away is not easy. Leaving him isn’t easy. And now we’re beginning the K-1 fiancé visa process, navigating a lot of uncertainty as we try to bring our two lives, countries, cultures and worlds together. There is so much we can’t control. So we keep doing what we’ve done from the beginning: choosing each other. Trusting the next step. And believing that somehow, this crazy little train-platform encounter knew exactly what it was doing. ✨ Back to Florence in November. 🇮🇹 Until then, I’m holding onto the magic of these two weeks — and the beautiful truth that sometimes the life you never could have planned becomes the life you can’t imagine not living. ❤️ #engagement #italy #longdistance taken in Florence, Italy by @deenna_holohan

I said yes. 💍❤️ Yesterday, surrounded by the rolling hills of Tuscany, the man I met completely by chance on a train platform in Rome asked me to marry him. And somehow, standing there with him, it felt both extraordinary and completely inevitable. This love has surprised me, stretched me, healed parts of me, and reminded me that life can begin again in ways we could never possibly plan. At 55, I know something I didn’t fully understand when I was younger: there is no timeline for finding the love—or the life—that is meant for you. Sometimes the most beautiful chapters begin when you think you already know how your story goes. Mabrouk, I choose you. And I cannot wait for whatever comes next. ❤️ Engaged in Tuscany. What a special night. ✨ Tonight I had the honor of attending the premiere of Dreams From Otay Mesa at the 3rd Annual California Sober Films premiere, where our film was showcased alongside 11 incredible short films. I’m so grateful to have been part of this project and to celebrate it with such a talented community of storytellers. A huge thank you to our amazing cast, crew, producers, and especially our director, Burleigh Holder (@burlothegod ) for your vision, leadership, and the opportunity to be part of this beautiful film. It truly takes a village, and I’m thankful for every person who helped bring this story to life. One of my favorite parts of the evening was having @sophie.holohan there with me. Today, I’m celebrating the promise of America. Not because we’ve always lived up to our highest ideals, but because we’ve never stopped pushing toward them. I’m celebrating the belief that all people are created equal. The ongoing pursuit of liberty and justice for all. The conviction that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and the freedom to live authentically. I’m celebrating the people who have made this country better by refusing to accept “good enough.” The women who fought for the right to vote. The civil rights leaders who challenged injustice. The LGBTQ+ community whose courage has expanded freedom for generations. The immigrants who came here seeking a better life and helped build this nation with their hands, their dreams, and their resilience. The people who continue to stand up for one another because they believe America belongs to all of us. I believe the Constitution is at its strongest when it serves people—not when people are expected to serve systems. Its promise is not simply to preserve a nation, but to protect the rights, dignity, and freedom of the human beings who call it home. That’s the America I’m celebrating today: one that keeps striving to make those ideals real for everyone. Twenty-one. I’ve always believed that strength isn’t measured by how much you can carry. It’s measured by your willingness to put some of it down. Tessa, you’ve always been one of the strongest humans I’ve ever known. Fiercely determined. Incredibly resilient. The kind of person who simply refuses to quit. But what has moved me most over the last few years isn’t your strength—it’s your softness. I’ve watched you learn that protecting your peace isn’t selfish. That boundaries are an act of self-respect. That your kindness doesn’t have to cost you your well-being. That your heart—this enormous, compassionate heart you’ve always had—deserves to be cared for just as deeply as it cares for everyone else. That kind of transformation doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because you were brave enough to do the work. Watching you step into this new chapter has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. Seeing you pour your heart into your work at VEG, caring for animals and the people who love them, feels so deeply aligned with who you’ve always been. And watching you find your path back to school, following what lights you up instead of what the world expects, makes me smile every time we talk about your future. But maybe what I’m most grateful for is us. Over the last few years, we’ve chosen the hard conversations. We’ve chosen honesty over avoidance, curiosity over defensiveness, and healing over staying stuck. Relationships don’t become stronger because they’re easy—they become stronger because the people in them decide they’re worth fighting for. I’m so thankful we chose each other. As I look at you today, I don’t just see my daughter. I see a woman becoming more fully herself. Someone who knows that compassion and boundaries can exist together. Someone who is learning to trust herself. Someone who is creating a life that feels authentic instead of performative.
