We make emotive styles of electronic music”: Latest EP👇
POSTS STORIES REELS
🔊 Out today on the label: two deep dub techno cuts by Joseph S. Joyce, built around slow-moving chords, spatial delay, and minimal structure. Phase Mist drifts through soft modulation and layered echo, with subtle shifts in tone and phase over time. Distance leans more melodic, with a slightly off-centre feel - looped motifs and detuned harmonies unfolding gradually over a steady rhythm. Available on Bandcamp and all the usual places, link in bio. 🔗 by @defaultposition
Here’s a clip from “Break It Down 3000” — the B-side from my new EP. This one samples the James Brown "Cold Sweat" break, which I love for its clean, airy feel and that midrange-heavy kick. It draws from ‘90s intelligent DnB: LTJ Bukem, Blame, Goodlooking Records — all those timeless atmospheric vibes. 🎧 Full track in bio. #jungle #drumandbass #intelligentdrumandbass #breakbeat by @defaultposition
Out today: Mechanical Evolution (🔗 in bio) marking the debut of Jsph-SJ, my new alias where I explore jungle, drumfunk, intelligent dnb and 90s-era sonic nostalgia. The title track was shaped around a sample from 1964, where British science fiction writer, Arthur C. Clarke boldly predicted: "That humans are simply a stepping stone in the evolution towards an inorganic artificial intelligent life form." This quote shaped the atmosphere and structure of the track, arriving at a moment when the rise of AI feels increasingly tangible. Mechanical Evolution features a drum break from the Wax Breaks series by @devparadox, whose aesthetic was a major influence. Final mastering comes courtesy of Harvey Jones, aka @pizzahotline_, a standout voice in the new wave of contemporary jungle production. The second track, Break It Down 3000, is built around the iconic James Brown “Cold Sweat” break, with shimmering deep pads reminiscent of 90s intelligent dnb, punctuated by wah-wah guitar licks and dusty chord strums. Out now on @defaultposition. Let me know what you think! by @defaultposition
This Thursday Joseph S Joyce, head honcho of dub techno label Default Position will be coming into the Hoxton FM studio to share 90 mins of his favourite music right now. He’s promising an eclectic mix that “might include breaks.” The first time he came on was really special and is still one of my favourite shows at the old studio. This remix by him might give you a hint at what is in store. by @defaultposition

VIDEO PREMIERE: Joseph S Joyce - Once Upon an Icelandic Highway [Default Position] ‘’Once upon an Icelandic Highway, my father and I embarked on an unforgettable journey. With a camera securely mounted to our jeep, we ventured out into the vast untouched wilderness to capture Iceland’s other-worldly landscapes on film. The rhythmic hum of the tires against the road became our soundtrack as the terrain unfolded. Each twist and turn of the highway revealed breathtaking panoramas - from rugged mountains and cascading waterfalls to frozen glaciers and majestic fjords. On our return, I got to work editing a selection of the best footage. Later, I created a soundtrack that encapsulated the lunar-like surface of this incredible place and the repetitive rhythm of the car cruising along the road. In dedicating this release to my father, I pay homage to a man whose passion for the natural world was unparalleled. In loving memory of Brendan Joyce OBE.’’ - Joseph S Joyce All proceeds from this release will be donated to Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis. @josephsjoyce @defaultposition Link in bio #delayed #neverlatejustdelayed #brooklynmusicwebzine #brooklynmusicplatform #ElectronicMusic #UndergroundSound #FutureSounds #MusicDiscovery #ElectronicGrooves #TechnoTherapy #TechnoJourney #deeptechno #techno #josephsjoyce defaultposition #videopremiere by @defaultposition
