NM residents organizing against unregulated government surveillance. No warrants. No retention limits. No public oversight. We are changing that.

Was a good night to shed some light on some information we have been uncovering through our Bernalillo County records requests. As we continue to learn about these systems to better inform the public, we felt it was necessary to share a few tidbits during public comment.

1. The county is automatically enrolled by default in Axon's data improvement program. Police-collected footage and license plate data is used to build future surveillance products. The contract explicitly names ALPR as a use case. It's opt-out. There is no evidence the county ever opted out. (Master Service and Purchasing Agreement, page 12, section 1)

2. A contract for body cams includes ALPR licenses across 125 patrol vehicles. This is not a body cam program as much as it is a rolling surveillance network. (Exhibit B, Quote, pg 7)

3. The system automatically links video to police dispatch records, creating a searchable AI-analyzed archive that detects faces and license plates at scale. (MSPA - Auto-tagging appendix & product description - Exhibit B-1)

4. No data retention limits. No warrant requirements.

5. Axon may share data with subsidiaries and subcontractors. Residents have no idea who has access. (MSPA, pg 48)

Though there was only one speaker, the stats provided made an impact with some of those in attendance, and hopefully council members.

On September 30th, we sent an email to New Mexico Gubernatorial candidates, @gregghullfornm and @debhaalandnm , with questions regarding their views on mass surveillance, the growing surveillance state, and what needs to be done.

We gave them until Friday, Oct. 16th to submit answers and told them we will be posting their answers (unedited) - or lack of - to our socials and website for public viewing.

Looking forward to hearing how our elected officials are approaching mass surveillance concerns.

Bernalillo County Commission meets Wednesday at 5:00 PM. BCSO ended their Flock contract, we are grateful 🙏🏾 but then they switched to Axon without the Town Hall Sheriff Allen promised. How can a surveillance system be trusted when there is no independent oversight, review or audit? That isn't accountability nor should it be acceptable.

A federal judge, Sara E. Hill, just ruled that these cameras are "indiscriminate mass surveillance."

Now it’s time the County Commission to stand for the Constitution and end mass surveillance.

No Axon! NO ALPRs!

⏰When: Wednesday, Oct. 14th @ 5:00 PM

🗣 Action: Show up. Pack the council chambers for public comment. Tell council: No Axon, No other ALPR vendor, and especially no mass surveillance.

Thank you to those of you who showed today at our Coronado Shopping Center protest!

With 18 Flock cameras, two at every entrance, many people were surprised when they received the information that the mall is a hub for mass surveillance. Some stopped to chat, others thoughtfully read our signs, while others honked/waved appreciatively.

Keep an eye out for next event as we continue to point out mass surveillance use across the city!

Another good night of people letting the Governing Body know NM residents do not want mass surveillance or data collection.

Decided to give a little history lesson on the 4th Amendment and some recent rulings since it seems they have no idea what the Constitution is about.

Rio Rancho Governing Body meets Thursday at 6:00 PM. Rio Rancho PD says they use Flock Safety "safely", but the department audits itself.
No independent oversight, review or audit. That isn't accountability nor should it be acceptable.

Join us Sunday October 11th, 11a-1p at Coronado Center Mall on 6600 Menaul Blvd NE. Gathering at the East Entrance of Louisiana. We will be protesting and bringing awareness to Coronado Center's willingness to partner and contract with Flock Safety. To be honest, sharing customer data isn't a new practice by any means, but adding AI to the equation is what turns it into dragnet surveillance, violating our constitutional rights.

We will be out letting the public know that we have no tolerance for companies sharing our info with federal agencies or data brokers. Help us let Coronado Center know we will not continue our patronage if they continue their support of mass surveillance.

Thank you to all who came out to our DeFlock Lowes protest. Great turnout on a beautiful Sunday. Honks, waves, thumbs up, and fists were raised again today saying the same thing: New Mexicans clearly do not want mass surveillance in Albuquerque, nor do they approve of Lowe's willingness to surveil and share data of customers.

Freely sharing customer data and not selling customer data are completely different things. Don't let Flockaganda fool you. New Mexicans say NO MÁS SURVEILLANCE IN NEW MEXICO.
