Some Flock & ALPR info, and some upcoming meetings! Flock is one of the nations biggest surveillance manufacturers today. But mass surveillance is NOT replacement for protecting the community and gaining their trust - it’s a way to control the population and gain information.
-
THIS SATURDAY! April 25th at 9am, at NorCal Resist, the NorCal DeFlock Regional groups will be holding an educational meeting to discuss Flock and other ALPRs, as well as how to get them OUT. Whether you’re just getting started, are waiting for records, battling it out with city council, or have seen success, this meeting can connect you with others and provide you great resources. It’s being put on by the DeFlock Woodland, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, West Sac, Natomas, and Carmichael groups, and is open to all in California! I look forward to seeing people there!
-
On May 7th, the ACLU May Community Meeting will be held! The primary discussion topic will be Vallejo PD and the Police Oversight & Accountability Commission, but there will also be a presentation of Flock’s current presence in Vallejo, as well as a chance for anyone interested in DeFlocking Vallejo to connect. Another reminder will be posted as we get closer!

A small crowd gathered in downtown Napa yesterday to rally and show support for Wilber Garces Perez - the man Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shot in the back while making a doordash delivery in Austin, Texas on Sunday, Sept. 20.

“The bullet’s still in his back, and he’s in detention. And they didn’t do much about his medical care,” said Jeannette Goyetche, a Napa resident and member of Indivisible.

“I think we need to all be together on this,” Goyetche said. taken in Napa, California by @deflockvallejo

JUSTICE FOR WILBER RAFAEL GARCES PEREZ!

ICE shot Wilber in the back. They have detained him and are refusing him medical attention.

We demand justice for Wilber and all people that ICE has terrorized.

NAPA, STAND UP! We will not let this happen here.
SANCTUARY CITY NOW!

No permitiremos que esto suceda aquí. taken in Napa, California by @deflockvallejo

Almost as if it were coordinated, Police Surveillance will be on the agenda in a city near you in the next two weeks!

Join us in rejecting the push for fascist police technology all across the Bay Area! Demand that every city, county, and school in our region drop their contracts with companies violating our fourth amendment rights, collaborating with immigration enforcement, and are complicit in an aspect of US imperialism.

Whether its Flock using exploited Filipino labor, Axon being connected to Jeffrey Epstein and Israeli company Carbyne, or Motorola being used as surveillance by Israeli settlement, every single one of these companies is complicit.

Read caption⬇️Join us today 5pm at Townhouse! 401a Georgia Street! ALPRs (Automatic License Plate Readers) making Vallejo once again in national news *for all the wrong reasons* The good news is that you can join us tonight and get plugged in on ways to fight back, as part of a *nationwide* week of action against for-profit mass surveillance. See our previous post for context.

ALPR technology is a product sold by for-profit companies to enrich shareholders. As such, a profit bottom-line is reliant upon crime and social instability to increase profits from year to year. This is at odds with the purported objective of surveillance, which is to “stop” crime.

Worse, the right-wing sound byte, “if you’re doing nothing wrong you’ve got nothing to worry about”
is demonstrably false, as for-profit surveillance consistently succeeds in its shareholder-enriching objective, while too often also endangering innocent people.

This is why people across the political spectrum are fighting back against mass surveillance across the nation and, as always, we join the discussion adding a dimension of class consciousness. Security and crime reduction comes from stronger communities and social services, not from police corporatization. We’re in the long fight to build that security and community. But at the same time we need to push back on the police corporatization that opposes it, and push back hard! Join us tonight to get plugged in! by @deflockvallejo

VALLEJO IN THE NEWS! TW: police & distressed children.

VPD got a shoutout on Jon Oliver! Unfortunately, not all press is good press. 37% of hits from fixed/stationary ALPRs, and 35% of hits from the ones fixed to police cars, WERE WRONG IN VALLEJO! Resulting in people, citizens of Vallejo, tourists, or people just passing through, being wrongly pulled over and detained. The second half of the video shows how that ERROR ends in a family being terrorized in Denver.

IS THIS SAFETY? Or is it POWER? taken in Vallejo, California by @deflockvallejo
