How many of these companies are in your portfolio? In September, our investors primarily chose tech stocks. Micron Technology, an American computer memory and data storage company, was the most traded stock in Germany and Italy. Investors in The Netherlands and France also picked semiconductors, specifically ASML and STMicroelectronics. The second most popular sector was finance and banking. Millennium BCP and Santander were the most traded stocks in Portugal and Spain, respectively.

How many chipmaker giants do you have in your portfolio? On 21 September, Advanced Micro Devices hit $1 trillion market cap for the first time. Its shares closed at a record high of $613,31, up 9,6%, marking it as NVIDIA's closest rival in AI GPUs. AMD is the fourth US chipmaker to reach this milestone, joining NVIDIA, Broadcom and Micron. NVIDIA, now worth over $5 trillion, crossed that mark in 2023. 'Money is moving back into the AI trade,' said Thomas Hayes of Great Hill Capital. Enthusiasm for chip stocks had previously cooled due to concerns about spending, oil prices and interest rates. However, investors see AI as resilient in the face of a Fed slowdown, with AMD symbolising this shift. Intel, Qualcomm and the chip index have also rallied. AMD is expanding its range of AI products and systems in order to compete with NVIDIA and is gaining market share from Intel in the field of AI server CPUs.
