Every now and then I have to remind myself (and frankly, you lot) that I can actually cook. Not just stack a bunch of tasty bits in between two slices of bread. So this good’un: One skillet, crispy potatoes and salmon, sat on a vivid green purée of spring onion, coriander, garlic and a few herbs that tastes far more fancy than the effort involved ever deserved.

And that’s sort of the whole point of how I cook at home: minimal effort, maximum results. It looks like a plate id serve to guests, it eats like a proper treat, and it won’t wreck your kitchen on a weeknight. This is just the teaser. I got down to the opening night at @carmelaspizzeria, the new pizza spot from legends of the London pizza scene @bitetwicefoodreviews - and let’s just say North London has got a gem on its hands!

We’ve got lots of new pizza restaurants in London but none are combining the warmth and feel of a local restaurant with genuinely top tier technique, ingredients and execution like Carmela’s. Their pizzas are as good as any I’ve had in London and the restaurant just has that friendly, inviting buzz that makes you not wanna leave!

And Paul and Jerry, these guys massively deserve it. I remember Jerry telling me they had 13k followers in 2022, fast forward 3 years and they’ve got a dedicated community of 140k+ and have opened up their own restaurant. Properly found it inspiring as a content creator - this is what you can achieve with hard work, always showing up and consistently delivering good content. Massive congrats fellas - I know the restaurant is 100% gonna be a success! 👏🏾👏🏾

WE’RE BACK! 🙋🏾‍♂️ Guys I’ve been on my longest break from Instagram while I was working out what I wanted to do with my channel. In that time your boy decided it’s time to get serious and create a proper channel, not just me sharing food stuff I like, but something that gives value and entertainment and hopefully stuff people want to watch.

So I did a whole content strategy piece. I decided the main stuff I want to post about, created my content pillars, did a rebrand and now we’re ready to roll! 🕺🏾

So welcome to the all new @dejdoeslondon - where there’s still going to be lots of food content, but also lifestyle content, some gym and fitness content and home content too.

So thanks for being here and hopefully you’ll find some stuff you like. Had a cracking food recommendation visiting the the absolute stunner @jragreen in Loughton this week. She took me to @oystershack_ for lunch, a banger of local seafood spot. Extensive menu, very decent prices and a compete an utter haven for any seafood lovers. That scallop, prawn and bacon bun (£10)… ELITE. And some of the fattest, juiciest calamari (£7) 😮‍💨 It’s completely unpretentious, just good food and the vibes of a friendly local spot. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Side note, I was CONVINCED Ray Winston’s was eating there and so close to going up to him… until he made his way behind the fish bar and started shucking oysters 🤣🤣 So if you see him when you there, it’s almost certainly not Ray, but do check for me!

There’s a lot to be said for a ready meal that doesn’t feel like a ready meal. @fieldgoodsuk are clearly trying to reshape the category with quality food, proper cooking but actually convenient, which feels particularly relevant for us busy Londoners who would quite like dinner to be good without having to spend hours making it. This Butter Chicken, made in collaboration with All Things Butter, was a pretty convincing argument for the concept. Restaurant-quality? I’d absolutely say so.

But for this event in all honestly, the food was only part of what made the evening so good. Elliot and Sam were incredibly welcoming, as were everyone from the FieldGoods and @allthingsdairy__ teams, and the @acre__w10 staff too were equally lovely. Most of us had arrived solo, but by the end of the night everyone was chatting away like we’d known each other longer than a few hours. Good food, good people and one of those evenings where you leave with a big smile on your face 😁

Huge thanks to all the teams for your warmth and hospitality and @ollie_gelb for having me down!

AD | Nobody really introduced jerk and soba, they just happened to find each other in my kitchen and now they’re kinda inseparable. Nissin Wok Style Soba as the base, jerk paste stirred straight through the noodles, then sticky Jerk seasoned wings, sweet plantain and a jammy egg all turning up to the same party.

Smoky, sweet, salty, a kick from the chilli oil and a squeeze of lime keeping al the attendees in check. Jamaica and Japan linking up in one bowl because we’re all about the multicultural vibes over here. So let me know, would you try this?
