Taken from the name of the fan-shaped island built by the Japanese to trade with Europeans in the 17th century, DEJIMA intends to be a new cultural and creative meeting point between Japanese artisans and international artists. Drawn by Japanese illustrator @yamauchiyosuke, our new logo is a witty take on the island’s shape and symbolises the spirit of the DEJIMA brand. taken in Dejima Store by @dejimastore

Those traditional rice wax candles from @omoriwarosoku will brighten up the new season. We visited their workshop in Ehime Prefecture this summer and discovered that these candles have been made in the same way for generations, in various sizes ranging from 1 to 50 monme — a traditional Japanese unit of weight. Each size comes with a selection of handcrafted cast iron holders.

Now available in store, as single candles or in gift boxes. taken in Dejima Store by @dejimastore

The Ikazaki Kite Museum in Ehime Prefecture is home to hundreds of brightly coloured Japanese kites handcrafted from bamboo and washi paper. An impressive collection showcasing an extraordinary variety of shapes, techniques and regional traditions.

Every May, some of the largest kites are flown during the local kite fight festival, where teams compete by trying to cut each other’s lines – a tradition dating back more than 400 years. by @dejimastore

Some things take longer than others. Finding the right matcha was one of them.

When we came across @matsucha.ams, we immediately felt it belonged alongside our curated selection of Japan-made objects. Discovering its refined taste and velvety texture only confirmed that feeling.
