On the hike along Ma Pi Leng Pass, we were fortunate enough to come across some local farmers. The elderly woman we encountered was near the end of the trail, the second one of the mother and son were somewhere in the middle of the trail and the woman and her cow were close to where I had taken the photograph of the mother and son. They all have such infectious smiles don't they? 😁

Also, behind the woman with her cow was the tour group we were with and we were composed of 3 from the Netherlands, 2 from the Czech Republic, 1 from France and 2 of us from the Philippines. It was a nice mix of cultures which is always nice when travelling.

This was taken from the hike on the Ma Pi Leng Pass which was around a 2 hour hike and it had a nice view of the Nho Que River. Though I think we finished earlier as the folks we were with were quite fast and they would take photographs while walking, I on the other hand kept stopping for photographs and ended up having to run a lot 😂

There were other view points on the trail but as with a lot of the scenery it was very foggy, so thankfully there was a clearing to see the river at some point.

This set was taken from the Lao Xa Village and the H'mong people and home featured are a family of silver workers who have been doing their craft for 122 years. At least that's what their sign says, and so the portraits show 2 generations of a family doing their craft.

The first image is of the grandfather, then the granddaughter who was very shy, then the grandson, and finally their very nice hearth.

They don't hard sell you for their crafts and most of the silver is affordable around 600k Vnd, which is about 300 Php or roughly 6 USD.

The first day concluded with some Vietnamese happy water and their very cool way of doing cheers. Anyone else know how their toast goes? 😁

This is a shot from the 8th stop on the 2nd day of our Hà Giang Loop tour with a decent view. The fog was still very heavy at the start of the day so we missed some view points like the Nine-turn pass where you see the zigzag roads. So we were absolutely thrilled to be able to see some scenery.

This was taken from the Khe Lia Viewpoint.

They had also taken us to a view point where you see the border between Vietnam and China, but I'll save that for later since this had better scenery. For me anyway.

Another stop on our first day of the Hà Giang Loop was the Linen Weaving Village in Quản Bạ where they explained the hemp weaving that they do.

An absolutely laborious effort to come up with their crafts. They explain the process quite nicely from harvesting, retting, drying, spinning and all the so many other steps that they do to make their threads.

The lady in the photograph is spinning the hemp fibers through the loom to make the thread thinner.

The whole process reminded me of how they do things with Abaca in the Philippines 😊

It's been a while people! And though I have been taking photos I've never gotten to posting them as well as being around to look at the community that has helped inspire my love for photography.

Life has been a mix of things but slowly moving again.

The photo is from our last trip which was in Vietnam where we did the Hà Giang Loop where you explore the area of Hà Giang on Motorcycle. We took the 4 day package and this waterfall called Khau Làn waterfall, was our 2nd stop on the trip. I've started with the 2nd stop as we were unfortunate to have foggy weather our first 2 days so not a lot of scenery.

The waterfall has a short hike but don't forget your water and don't forget to remove your rain coats as it will be hot as hell hiking with it. I forgot to remove mine so I'm leaving the note here. Haha!

This photo was taken at sunrise from Lawis Grand Canyon in Bukidnon around March this year when we tried exploring Mindanao.

The sight was absolutely gorgeous as you can imagine.

Getting there was not that easy as there are no signs to show off the location and we had to trust Google maps to guide us through parts where there were no roads.

If you're planning on hiring a vehicle, a four wheeler would be best as most of the roads getting there are mud and rocks. Also best to check ahead for the sunrise time so you don't miss the sun peaking over the horizon 😊

The last set of images from the trip are scenes from the Aokigahara Forest.

The air was fresh and the sun kissed scenery was beautiful.

Surprisingly, we didn't encounter a lot of people hiking there, apart from the two locals with a map, a group of four foreign tourists like us, an elderly couple and their dog, and a couple with their daughter.

Also, in the last photo, there's a white spot that looks like a face. Not sure what it is but it's there, unfortunately it can only be seen on the high-res photo 🤣

After our tiring hike from Fuji-san, we decided to take it easy and explore another popular site close to Fuji-san which was Aokigahara Jukai or the Sea of Trees, or more popularly known in English as the Suicide Forest.

Not too long upon entering the forest we had already hit a fork in the road with some signs, we wanted to go head to the ice caves, and we're already lost haha. Fortunately there were two Japanese locals who spoke english and offered us their map which was a lot better than relying on google maps at this point.

Our walk through the forest was nice and peaceful, contrary to what we've seen in the movies, which was a sigh of relief.

The forest was lush and so green, and very lovely. It's easy to get lost if you don't keep your wits about you, so always stick to the trail as they say.

One last photograph from the summit before moving onto other photographs.

This was taken at around the 7:30AM, so the sun was already quite high, but the lighting it gave the landscape was still quite lovely.

Another good thing of not getting to the summit with the crowds is that after the sunrise, when you explore the area around the crater, everything is already well lit and you get to enjoy the scenery as well.

We were very thankful that Fuji-san gave us good weather and good views during our entire hike. All the effort, and dead toe nails, were absolutely worth it! 😁

A shot of the landscape from the summit of Fuji-san.

It took a little over an hour to get to the summit from our 8th station hut. The sun was a bit high already and so it wasn't as cold.

There were also less people at this point as most of the bullet climbers and climbers who came to watch the sunrise had already started their descent.

Walking around the crater, you'd also notice a lot of bullet climbers who had fallen asleep. I'd imagine most of them would wake up with a sun burn as well 😁

I was first able to visit Japan for the first time 27 years ago, that was also the last time I was able to wear a bahag.

For those that do not know, the bahag is a traditional loin cloth from the Cordilleras, where I was born.

I may not be an Igorot by blood, but I am an Igorot by heart and so have always had a love of the mountains. This became more apparent as I've aged and have developed a love of hiking.

The first 2 photos are from that trip 27 years ago, and the last one was taken at the summit of Mount Fuji.

Knowing that Fuji-san is sacred to the Japanese, we had asked permission if it was okay to do this. Also, seeing the barefoot runners had also made me want to share a piece of culture from our side of the planet 😊
