POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@blacktechweek
I was in Cincinnati last week to lead a powerful convo with Barbara Smith and Monica L. Womack on workforce, equity, and the future of talent.

Nearly 8,000 people showed up—and our panel set the stage before Keke Palmer and Fawn Weaver lit it up.

Star power. Strategy. In the Midwest.

Last week at #NABJ25, Onyx Impact’s Information Integrity Lab hit the stage with powerhouse voices to tackle one of the biggest threats to our stories and our power: disinformation targeting Black communities.

📌 Receipts Ready: A Panel Discussion Exposing Disinformation Targeting Black Communities
Moderated by our founder @esosa_osa1 Esosa Osa, the conversation brought together @missbeae Beatrice Peterson (ABC News), @kenyatparham Kenya Parham (SPILL), @delanorm Delano Massey (Axios Local), and @terrellwplg Terrell Forney (WPLG-Miami) to break down how digital lies spread, who’s behind them, and the cutting-edge tools and trusted messengers fighting back.

From Aisha, our AI-powered guide to trusted Black news, to the strategies coming out of our new Information Integrity Lab, this panel armed journalists, creators, and community leaders with the receipts they need to expose digital threats and protect our narratives.

🎥 Watch the recap and see how we’re turning information into power.
Drop “onyx” in the comments 👇 and we’ll DM you more ways to get involved.

A New Story. A New Taste. A New Journey Begins. by @delanorm

“College days swiftly pass.”

And somehow, today marks 25 years of New Reign.

Life has taken us through relationships, loss, career shifts, businesses built, private struggles, hard seasons and more than we could have imagined as young men.

Through it all, the bond endured.

Not everyone understands the what or the why of fraternity. People draw their own conclusions. That’s fine.

But we are family.

Ramsey Inman and Christopher L. Henderson, thank you for watching out, holding it down and fighting to see the light with me.

Leon and David, thank you for leading us through and helping shape the brotherhood we still carry.

Ace. Rock. Tail.

Twenty-five years later, we are still family.

There are conventions you attend. And then there are conventions that remind you why you chose this work in the first place.

NABJ 2026 was that for me.

I spent time with the OGs who helped build the foundation we stand on. I reconnected with old friends and made new ones. I moderated conversations. I listened. I gave guidance. I shared some of the wisdom 25 years in journalism has given me, and I was wise enough to receive some wisdom, too.

That last part matters.

This week, I found myself moving between generations. Learning from mentors. Pouring into mentees. Sitting alongside people I’ve admired. And stepping more fully into a new chapter of my own as an author.

The energy in Atlanta was undeniable. So was the responsibility of this moment.

“Tell the truth, shame the devil,” Dr. Mashaun Simon preached at the gospel brunch.

That’s the assignment.

I left NABJ grateful, energized and clear about what comes next. After 25 years, I’m still learning. Still building. Still telling stories. And now, increasingly, helping others find their way while I continue finding mine.

One of the most impactful conventions of my career.

“Don’t get mad. Get smart.”

Ambassador Andrew Young brought history, strategy and a charge to NABJ’s Summer Board Meeting:

“You’re going to have to report the news that’s not reported. You’re going to have to read the maps.”

As we begin a convention themed Our Revolution: Truth, Power and Black Journalism, the assignment is clear.

Leadership. Legacy. The next 50 years.

Axios is definitely in the building at #NABJ26!

We’ve got reporters, editors, recruiters and leaders from across the company coming to Atlanta. And since I’ve posted my panels one at a time, here’s everything — and everybody — all in one place.

Find me if you want to talk about opportunities, journalism, books, faith, politics, Mitch McConnell — or whatever else comes up.

See y’all next week! by @delanorm

This is a bit surreal, but this time next week, I'll be sitting on this panel.

More than 20 years ago, I picked up Lawrence Ross' The Divine Nine as a young man interested in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I was trying to understand the history and legacy I hoped to join. I also remember telling Lawrence that I hoped to be a writer one day.

When he signed my copy, he wrote: "To the future author."

Funny how life works.

Two things eventually became true.

Next Wednesday, I'll be sitting beside my literary agent, Laini Brown Jemison, along with Wisdom Martin and Angela P. Dodson, talking about the journey from idea to publication.

We'll discuss what it really takes to get from an idea to a manuscript, from finding representation to signing a publishing deal—and yes, getting paid.

If you're working on a book—or wondering whether you should start one—I hope you'll join us.

Some of the most important stories in America aren’t just about conflict. They’re about coalition.

Black and Latino communities have stood together, disagreed, organized, and reshaped this country’s political landscape for generations. Covering those relationships requires history, context and nuance—not just headlines.

Looking forward to this conversation at #NABJ2026 with Martin Luther King III, Arndrea Waters King, Hector Sánchez Barba and my Axios colleague @russncontreras (and, apparently, music producer)

If you’re in Atlanta, I hope you’ll join us.
