Jack De Cock – Recap: Jack’s Casino Racing Day, TT Circuit Assen

A weekend with plenty of speed, but unfortunately not the results Jack De Cock was hoping for during the Mazda MX-5 races at TT Circuit Assen.

Free Practice set the tone: P6 overall and P2 in the rookie class — a promising base heading into qualifying.

Qualifying, however, didn’t go as planned. The team strategy couldn’t be capitalized on, and the tire’s peak performance window wasn’t fully utilized, resulting in a disappointing P15 overall and P5 in the rookie class.

Race 1 was marked by chaos and tension throughout the entire field, with a string of collisions. This led to a high-speed spin for Jack, causing him to lose touch with the front group and miss out on opportunities. Final result: P18 overall, P5 rookie class.

Race 2 went wrong early on due to slightly overenthusiastic tire warming. The rest of the race became a fight for grip and track position. Jack finished P15 overall and P7 in the rookie class.

Despite a weekend without the hoped-for results, we’re looking positively at the approach taken by V Max Racing. The Mazda MX-5 Benelux Cup remains a fantastic learning ground, but things are currently too chaotic and uncontrolled. The signal sent by race director Ronnie Andersen to tighten the reins can only be good for the credibility of this great championship.

We’re taking all the lessons learned into the next round at the end of August at the Nürburgring, during the GT World Challenge.
