🌈✨ OCTOBER 2026: DESI QULTURE ✨🌈

We grew up with stories of love, family, festivals, traditions, drama, rituals, and enough relatives to form their own WhatsApp group.

Now imagine looking at all of it through a Queer lens.

This October, we’re exploring Desi Qulture — the messy, beautiful, complicated space where Indian culture meets Queer experiences.

From the stories we grew up hearing to the festivals we celebrate, from family expectations to chosen families, from Bollywood to shaadi season, from “log kya kahenge?” to “main aisa hi hoon.”

Because Queer lives have always existed within Desi culture. We just don’t always get to see those stories told in our own language, context, and way.

October is LGBTQ+ History Month globally. It also marks the beginning of the Indian festive season — making it the perfect time to look at the histories, traditions, and everyday moments that shape us.

This month, we’re asking:

What does Queerness look like when it speaks in our language?

“That’s your pronoun sticker. Everyone gets one. Saves us the awkward guessing game.” 👀🏳️‍🌈

“Okay, cute. What about this one? ‘No Means No.’”
“ Means exactly that. If someone’s wearing it, please don’t click their picture or put them on social media.”

“Ohhh. And this one says ‘Ready to Mingle’…”
“Exactly what you think it means. 👀 If you see someone wearing it, maybe that’s your sign to say hi.”

A safe space isn’t just about having good intentions. Sometimes, it’s about making boundaries, identities and intentions easy to understand — before the first conversation even begins.

DQS is all about safe, equitable and inclusive spaces and stickers are just one way that we achieve it.

Visibility can help people see you. It doesn’t define who you are. 🏳️‍🌈

For many bisexual people, being visible can come with a strange expectation — that you need to look, act, date, or identify a certain way to be “bi enough.”

Shruti Verma Isaac (@shruisaac_v) puts it simply: visibility doesn’t make an identity more real.

You don’t become more bisexual when people can see it. You don’t become less bisexual when they can’t.

You just are.

This Bi Visibility Day, here’s to letting bisexuality exist without proof, performance, or permission.
