💫Meet Delisha McKinney. A Chicago born, self taught multidisciplinary artist.

Delisha works across painting, soft sculpture, cut paper illustration, and murals. Her practice draws on color, texture, memory, and childhood wonder to create layered worlds that feel both personal and expansive.🎨

At We The People, Delisha’s presence creates a moment to reconnect with the parts of ourselves that are easy to leave behind. Her work brings a sense of play, memory, and imagination into a day centered on the many experiences that shape who we become. ✨

📅 This Saturday, October 3rd
📍 Harris Theater

Hero is Coming Soon.

Hero was created to remind us that being strong doesn’t mean you never fall, it means… you keep getting back up.
He’s here to protect, to inspire, and to remind us all:

Keep fighting.
Keep creating.
Keep going. taken in Chicago, Illinois by @delisha_____

The fourth annual Chicago Exhibition Week features 44 galleries among 75 participating spaces across the city from September 14-20, so today we headed into the city, started with a studio visit, then galleries, and a tasty late lunch.
A lovely time was had with great friends! ❤️

Sound on 🔊
WEEK ONE: MAJORITY OR MINORITY

We’ve officially finished our first week! ✨

This week, we started with one simple question:
What makes someone a good citizen?

Students created their own clay citizens, each with a different personality, identity, and story. We talked about community, responsibility, and the rights we all have, even when our voices aren’t part of the majority.

Our little citizens are just getting started. 🗳️

Week 1 complete. 3 more to go!

Chicago’s most beautiful basketball court.

Art by Delisha McKinney (@delisha_____)— an East Garfield Park storyteller whose work draws from children’s books and comics. Her whole thing is that you’re meant to step into the work, not look at it. Here you get to play in it. Her first major art project in Chicago, in the neighborhood she’s from.

@wsunitedchi 2025 Impact Report.

To collaborate with an organization that’s committed to creating lasting change, and in my neighborhood…. Priceless.

Since 2017, West Side United and its partners have invested more than $350 million into Chicago’s West Side resulting in 7,732 local hires, $258 million spent with West Side businesses, and 800 low-interest loans to support local entrepreneurs.

Art has the power to tell the story of a community, and I’m grateful that my work gets to help celebrate the people, neighborhoods, and investments shaping the future of the West Side.
Congratulations West Side United! 💐💐
Keep up the amazing work.

When the clowns come marching through,
They don’t ask me. They don’t ask you.
They laugh, they leap, they shout, they play….
Then leave the pieces to be swept away.
