People often ask me “What’s the secret to capturing weddings?” Here are my top 3.
•
1. Set the mood for the day. Often the photographer is second in command when it comes to the flow of the day following the wedding planner. If you are having a bad day it will inevitably affect the entire wedding party. The plus to that is, if you’re having a great day, your energy will help with any stresses a wedding day may bring. I listen to “Snooze” by @sza before EVERY SINGLE WEDDING. It just is my ideal love song 😂🫠 and I imagine she’s singing it to me 🥰🤷🏾‍♂️.
2. Know the couple as if they’re your friends. It’s important to know the styles of the couples. Every couple is different. Some don’t really care for posed pictures, some want every detail in the shot planned. Knowing their personalities will help you to bring their authentic selves out and take the nervousness away that they may have in front of the camera.
3. BE PREPARED! I cannot tell you how many times in the beginning I showed up to a wedding with only one battery charged and items on my memory card from previous shoots. Showing up with full batteries and empty memory cards may seem simple but the peace of mind you get knowing that your set up for the day is priceless. I’ve reached a point now where as soon as I change batteries, I start charging the one that just died and when a memory card fills up, I back up the files to my computer. Practicing safety and proactive methods will save you from frustration and unprofessionalism.
