Written sometime in fall ‘22 for poetry class. We had to write a new poem a week. I remember only one person in the class could identify who this poem was about, including my professor. I thought perhaps I hadn’t made it clear enough. My professor said my use of personifying the rope was confusing. After three years I still disagree. You weren’t allowed to defend your work. You could offer an explanation after everyone had gone in on your piece. Which is fair but this time I just knew it didn’t matter what anyone said they were wrong. I always have appreciated constructive criticism but this was the first time I realized my writing was not meant for everyone. And honestly I didn’t owe them an explanation so I didn’t offer one. They all felt cheated but so had I. I was confident enough where I went ahead and published it in my club’s magazine that same fall because there was zero consequence. And honestly, upon reflection, that class did me more wrong than good in the long term. I’ve always had a strong voice. my memories, reality, dreams are always intertwining. If it’s not clear to you, it’s not meant for you so consider yourself lucky. Moral is, I still think about this piece three years later and that means something I guess enough for me to still want to share it. by @delosofthesea

Been coloring more again . A quick thought I wanted to put down based off a recent journal entry. Sitting down to create something and leaving it once I’ve filled the page creates a boundary of letting go and being unconcerned with making it ‘right.’ by @delosofthesea
