What being Hispanic means to @maddyserranoo 🌎💌

“Hispanic Heritage Month means a lot to me because it gives me the chance to celebrate the different parts of Mexico my family comes from and the history that shaped who we are. Hispanic heritage means culture, family, community, and tradition. My family has taught me fun traditions and recipes that keep us close, and I’ve loved carrying them on. Staying connected to my family history through our traditions is something I take real pride in, because it keeps those roots alive from past generations before me and many generations after. Being Hispanic is a meaningful part of my identity, and this month is a reminder to share it and be proud!❤️”

“Hispanic Heritage Month means a lot to me coming from two immigrant parents who came to the United States with nothing. This months gives me time to connect with and celebrate my culture. I’ve seen all the sacrifices my parents have made to give me opportunities they never had, and I’m deeply grateful for everything they’ve done. Seeing the countless hours they have spent working to give me a better future is the motivation that I use everyday and I hope one day to have the opportunity to give my parents a portion of what they gave me. Everyday I thank my parents for keeping our culture alive through music, dancing, food and cultural traditions. In my future I plan to keep these traditions alive with my children so they can be proud of where they came from. Everything I do, I do with the hope of making my people proud and honoring where I come from. I will forever be proud to be a first generation Latina representing my people. VIVA LA RAZA 🤍🇲🇽🫶”

“To me, being Puerto Rican means carrying a piece of family with me wherever I go. I’ve traveled between Seattle and Puerto Rico my entire life, and my favorite memories are the moments I’ve shared with my family in pr. I grew up walking the same streets my mother and grandmother did, learning the traditions they passed down to me. Making pernil on Christmas, recreating my grandma’s empanadas, and celebrating Día de los Reyes are more taken in Delta Gamma - San Jose State University by @deltagammasjsu
