Moved most of my records from wine crates to a new storage solution (I finally gave in to Team Kallax). This gave me an excuse to setup a mixing station because sometimes you just want to record your own mixtapes. I have tons of CDs stored in a repurposed sideboard that need to get exercised. So I added a pair of Pioneer CDJ-800s and basic bug super reliable Numark M6 mixer

I know I like to go on and on about "𝘋𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘶𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭" but I have a confession: Brothers and sisters I have sinned! Sometimes when I'm feeling beastly I get a lil hungry 😬 And nothing helps to sate my hunger like the 4 terabytes of flac music files stored on my NAS 😂. One can never have too much music, amirite? Serato assists with accessing the digital music files.

All of my gear (besides my cd player) is still analogue though but I'm contemplating picking up a Mac Mini or a NUC, mounting a monitor on the wall (or maybe the 32" Frame TV) so that I can access my music remotely.

There's not a problem that I can't fix
'Cause I can do it in the mix

"Street photography is my every day"

~ Q-Tip (kinda)

This was my first roll with the trusty Canon AE-1 Program w/50mm f/1.4 FD lens and shot on Kodak Tri-X 400TX black & white flim. Clearly none of these were shot in Auto mode (you should see the exposure on some of the others. Yeeesh!😅) so this is definitely a work in progress. But progress I shall because progress is inevitable...

I hope...

Street Photography with this Canon AE-1 Program is the next step on my analogue journey. No flash, no zoom just a prime lens and the Sunny 16 Rule to guide me.

Coincidentally the first "real" camera I ever shot on was my Great Uncle's very similar Canon A-1 waaaaaaay back when I was a little kid. He took the time to sit down and explain to me how to focus and showed me how to properly frame a shot.

R.I.P. Broadway Jack: 8/1920 - 5/2023. You had a long and storied life. You will forever be missed.

I recently served as a foster father to a pristine damn near N.O.S. Technics RS-1500US. It had only been used a couple of times before being put in a glass display cabinet for a short while and then returned to its box. It is a beautiful TOTL "prosumer" machine. Just watching it in action was mesmerizing.

I turned to the devil sitting on my left shoulder and said, "Self? How many reel 2 reels does one man need?" knowing what the answer would be: NEVER ENOUGH

But the angel on my right shoulder butted in the conversation and in a cool rational tone said, "Well Self, you already have a Sony, an Akai, and a TEAC reel 2 reel players/recorders in various states of repair/disrepair/kinda-repaired. Do you really need a fourth?"

The devil said, "But this one can run 10.5" reels and can play at 15 ips. That speed is the cat's meow and puts records to shame. The redwood veneer matches Tiny as well as the Luxman turntable and it looks sooooo puuuuurdy!" (I have no idea where he got that Southern drawl from)

To which the angel replied, "You have already decided on the Pioneer RT-909. Parts for the Technics are rather expensive including replacement heads.

Plus you pride yourself on not being a horder. Are you willing to lose that badge of honour?"

And the devil said "Shit! You and your damned logic". He then spit and suddenly disappeared in a poof of smoke & brimstone.

And so the Technics eventually went on to it's forever home and I continued to procrastinate on finishing my remaining reel 2 reels.

I have never shown my turntable because it was nothing to write home about. Oh it was serviceable and all that jazz but it was a super low end belt drive Technics from the mid 80s that was waaaaay too plasticky for my taste. I have nothing against Technics, in fact I still lust after the SL-1100 as well as the original SL-1200 mk1. Mine was nowhere near as robust as those iconic tables plus it stood out like a sore thumb alongside the rest of my gear. I couldn't have it sitting alongside my main system.

So I stumbled across a Luxman PD-277 the other day and decided to BAM!! bump it up another notch. It is direct drive, full auto (which I will probably never use) and has rosewood veneer which coincidentally matches the veneer on 'Tiny'. The cover has no cracks and is in amazing shape, especially when considering the fact that it is over 40 years old. It came from the factory with a beautiful Micro Seiki TA-1 tonearm and is currently rocking a Signet TK-5Ea cartridge. I'll keep the cartridge for now but I plan on changing the stylus .
