Messed around with cheaper ballast alternatives . This is dyed agricultural walnut grit engine cleaner. In bulk this makes a convincing ballast that doesn’t break the bank at abt $1.80 per pound. Simply seaked overnight in a pastel mix then dried in the oven for 2hrs at 170f. Shoutout to @asburyparkartclub for the pigments used to dye the grit. by @dem34_m

Weathered the 5244. It looked fairly beat up in its last days running locals through rural New Jersey as the last rostered PRR steam locomotive. Also went ahead and did some appropriate cars along side so there is a cohesive consist. #nscalemodel #nscaletrain #modelrailroad #train #weathering by @dem34_m

For anyone wondering why posts can be slow. My day job now is repairing models. So after work i can have a bit of low energy to do more modeling.

Wanting to do more summer stuff I decided to mess around with some cheap chinese trees that come in $5 bulk bags. While most are well… tough to find a use for, squinting a little this kind of looked like Pinus rigida which are the trees that generally surround my house. So little trimming, little bending and a new coat of paint I think it looks close enough I may see about buying the packs that only contain these. #trees #diy #scalemodelsworld #modeltrains #budget by @dem34_m
