I do love hemstitching on woven fabric. It's so satisfying. These will just be cleaning cloths; I am using up some cotton yarn as a palate cleanser before the next project (yarn in waiting 😁) #weaversofinstagram #rigidheddleweaversofinstagram by @demelzathecat

Train knitting, on my way to Winterthur to meet Charlie and go to an information evening at a university he's interested in attending next year. #nevernotknitting #trainknitting #knittersofinstagram #musselburghhat by @demelzathecat

Multitasking - knitting while printing out study notes. This second pair of Gusto sock yarn skeins will be a matching hat. This is my third go-round with the Musselburgh pattern, and it's so satisfying. #gustowool #musselburghhat #knittersofinstagram by @demelzathecat

Four days into the month and Socktober is off to a great start 😁 the photo doesn't really do the colours justice but it is already getting dark here. Quite possibly the fastest pair of socks I have made - finished in a week! that's fast for me, anyway, given that I am also studying for an exam at the end of the month. The yarn is by @gustowool which I bought from @wollring_weinfelden last weekend. The yarn comes in two 200m skeins, is an 80/20 superwash and is hand dyed. I was not expecting these socks to match so perfectly. Now to cast on for the matching hat! #sockknittersofinstagram #nevernotknitting #socktober2026 by @demelzathecat

Somebody had some fairly major dental treatment yesterday. Poor boy. He's sleeping off the trauma. Sydney keeps hissing and growling at him because apparently he smells wrong! And yes, that box has been sitting there for the last three months - I am not allowed to get rid of it 🤣🤣 #mainecoonstagram by @demelzathecat

Today is a rest on the sofa kind of day. Somehow I have picked up a cough and sore throat, and I feel completely drained. Archaeological documentaries and knitting it is, then. Boy Cat is keeping me company.

Do I enjoy jogging? No.
Am I any good at it? Also, no.
Does it make me feel good? Again, no.
Is it worth it for the views, and the fact that I can legitimately ignore all the job hunting crap for half an hour and not have to speak to or look at people while passing them really slowly? Actually, yes.
Happy Sunday, everyone.

We took a trip over to Weinfelden today on the train for a stroll round the @wega.ch festival. While there, of course I had to pop into @wollring_weinfelden and let Al choose some yarn for socks. This glorious hand-dyed yarn came home with us, and has already been wound into balls and the first sock cast on 😁 #sockknitting #knittersofinstagram #strickeninderschweiz #sockenstrickengehtimmer by @demelzathecat

Today is Worldwide Spin In Public Day. The best I can do is 15 minutes with a spindle on the deck - too many other things to do, and it's too hot to sit out with a wheel - yes, mid-September, these temperatures are stupid! Also I have no-one to spin with - the downside of moving to a new country. #spinnersofinstagram #worldwidespininpublicday2026 #spinnersofswitzerland #spinnerin by @demelzathecat

I wasn't going to say anything, but my feed is now full of running so I can't escape it.
I am not a runner. I am not built for running (boobage). I am not tall and skinny. I have seriously dodgy knees, one of which has been operated on and still crunches horribly. I have an old sacroiliac injury from a riding accident that occasionally makes itself known. I have run two races in my life - one was a 5k Race For Life about 30 years ago, and one was the Great South Run, a 10-mile extravaganza, which I slogged my way through 15 years ago to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Research UK (the disease that took my mother).

And yet.
I now appear to be a slow jogger. Somehow Japanese/Korean slow jogging crossed my feed, and I have discovered it is something I can do. It gets me out in the fresh air. It doesn't hurt my knees. I can also do it in my house, jogging up and down my living room and round my kitchen. Of course it looks completely ridiculous. (I need to get a T shirt that says 'It's Called Slow Jogging - Look It Up'!) But with my headphones on and 180bpm music in my ears, I don't really care about sniggering teenagers and haughty dogwalkers - or even the real runners who overtake me in a flash. Sod them all. My split times are my business and no-one else's.

For the record, I am not planning on doing any more races. I remember the humiliation of the barriers being taken down along the route of the GSR as I passed by - the last person in the whole race - and people crossing the road in front of me like I didn't count - while other participants who had finished ages ago were jogging home in the opposite direction. It was hard and emotional - and I did it, in pain, to raise money for charity. I have no intention of going there again. But I might attempt a Park Run at some point in the distant future. Who knows? #slowjogging #fitafter50 by @demelzathecat
