As we look back on 2025, we’re incredibly proud of the difference Dementia Forward has made across North Yorkshire.

Throughout the year, we’ve continued to support people affected by dementia and their loved ones through our advice and support, wellbeing services, education programmes and community activities. This impact wouldn’t be possible without our compassionate volunteers, generous fundraisers and supportive partners.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey this year. We look forward to continuing this important work together in 2026 and beyond. by @dementiaforward

October 24th is Young Onset Dementia Awareness Day. We are encouraging people and organisations to raise awareness and champion change in whatever way they can. This year, we will be releasing a report we have been working on with @care_england identifying the data problem with young onset dementia, entitled 'A Hidden Population'. Let's make Young Onset Dementia visible. Please keep following for news on the report, and let us know how you will be marking YODA day! #yoda #yoday #youngonsetdementia @andy.burnham @youngerpeoplewithdementia @hannah_gardner_dementia_uk @theimperfectspodcast @_jimr @lendprogramme @togetherdementiasupport @dementiaresearchuk @dementia_uk @martinfrizell1 @theftdbrothers @primrosecarefarm @wellburncare @dementia_wellburncare @our_dementia_choir @dementiadisco @yourharrogate @thisisyo1 @bbcyorkshire by @dementiaforward

Community Impact!

Our Community Coach Katy has been delivering some brilliant sessions with the Dementia Forward café, showing how sport and physical activity can be adapted so everyone can take part.

Last week, the group enjoyed Fast Feet, using the equipment in a seated activity by throwing and rolling the ball to switch the lights off. It was a fantastic way to work on mobility, coordination and accuracy — with plenty of fun along the way!

This week, they turned their attention to basketball. Whether standing or seated, everyone could get involved, testing their hand-eye coordination and shooting skills. There were some fantastic shots, plenty of cheering, lots of laughs and even a few nostalgic sporting memories shared!

It’s fantastic to see the enjoyment these sessions bring and a great reminder that physical activity has so many benefits more physically and socially

Last week the Time Out Together groups visited Carlton Lodge / North Yorksire Youth. Our task was to remove a dead hedge and then do some problem solving problems round the lake. A great day of working and working together. Our Time Out Together groups are outward bound days out for younger people with dementia. They run weekly in Harrogate, York and Scarborough. @northyorkshireyouth @carltonlodgeactivitycentre #YoungOnsetDementia #youngdementia #dementiacommunity #dementiaawareness by @dementiaforward

We enjoyed a lovely visit to @primrosecarefarm near Thirsk this morning, where we had a tour, made loads of plans and even made some new friends. The farm is beautifully designed, with lots of distinct areas and activities. The view is also incredible. See if you can spot the White Horse behind us. Thank you for inviting us and we look forward to visiting again soon ❤️ by @dementiaforward

A huge congratulations to our fantastic Tan Hill walkers for completing yesterday’s 15-mile hike through the Swaledale countryside, all in support of Dementia Forward.
Despite a wet start to the day, the weather soon turned around, rewarding our 50 walkers with beautiful blue skies for the rest of the challenge.
A huge thank you to @harrisirwinarchitects for their generous sponsorship which made this first-time event possible. It was wonderful to have members of their team join us on the walk too! We’re also grateful to @thetanhillinn_ for their hospitality throughout the day and for providing a base for the event.
Our walkers have been amazing in their fundraising efforts, and we can’t wait to reveal the grand total raised very soon. Thank you to everyone who took part, supported, sponsored and helped make our first Tan Hill Walk such a success. Watch out for a date for 2027!
