I grew up right here on the corner of Hooper and Vernon. My grandmother lived down the way. I used to walk to the liquor store on the corner for snacks, and I still go to church right across the street.

I live across town now, but this is still home. This is where my family is. This is where my memories are. This is where I grew up.

That’s why it mattered to me to bring the first Share the Light event right here. There is so much potential in this neighborhood, but not nearly enough resources for our young people. So we’re bringing tangible resources to them, especially young people who are system impacted, at risk of homelessness, or have been in the foster care system.

Here’s what I’m asking. Come join us. And bring a young person with you. Whether it’s someone you see on the street, someone you know personally, or young people your organization serves, bring them.

We’ll have free phone chargers, data plans, gift cards, hygiene kits, food, and music, plus a whole lot of people who care, including Chosen Hearts, Inspire 2 Together, Heavenly Los Angeles, Olive Crest, St. Joseph Center, Volunteers of America Los Angeles, CRCD, LA Metro, Young Life South LA, Los Angeles Job Corps, Jessie’s Place Wendy’s Kids, Beyond Foster Care, Espressaria Cafe, Restoring Hope California, LOVS Counseling, Haven for Hope, the LA County Probation Office of the Ombudsman, and ZTCCLA

We’re excited. Come see what it looks like when home shows up for its young people.

The struggle isn’t the only thing that tests your faith. Success does too.

We know how to call on God when things are falling apart. But what happens when everything starts falling into place? Don’t get the blessing and lose the connection.

Calling all youth serving organizations, nonprofits, churches, and shelters.

Load the bus. Load the van. Hop on the Metro. Bring your young people to the 1st Annual Share the Light Resource Event.

Saturday, October 10, 2026
10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Parking lot across from 1315 E. Vernon Ave (Hooper and Vernon), Los Angeles

Music, food for the soul, and a variety of resources for transitional age youth and teens ages 13 to 25.

Hygiene kits, pre paid data plans and chargers, clothing, and gift cards, plus partner organizations offering educational resources, employment and career pathways, and mentoring.

If you work with young people dealing housing insecurity, couch surfing, staying in a shelter, or unsure where they are sleeping next, they will find real support here and people who want to see them make it.

This one is especially for organizations serving youth on the East Side of South Central LA. If your young people are from this community, this event was built with them in mind.

Bring your youth. Bring your staff. Come have a good time with us.

The Registration Link is in our Bio

I’m grateful for the people who took the time to teach me things I didn’t even know I needed to learn.

As a young deacon, the late Deacon Michael Foster and @manuel.gray.7 taught me how to visit people in the hospital. Congregational care isn’t necessarily a skill set you’re born with. Sometimes it has to be modeled, taught, and passed down.

I learned the practice from them, but it really hit home when someone I loved was hospitalized and I spent weeks sleeping on the floor beside their bed. That experience changed the way I understood simply showing up.

There is something powerful about bringing your presence, your prayers, your faith, and your love and laughter into a room where someone may be afraid, hurting, or uncertain about what comes next.

My prayer is that there is another generation coming behind us who understands the importance of visitation. That we’re still teaching people how to show up. How to sit with people. How to pray with them. How to remind them that they are loved and that they are not alone.

I love “new” church. I love innovation but some things should never become outdated.

For a young person who’s run away, aged out, or been pushed out with nowhere to go, a charged phone can mean the difference between staying connected to someone who can help and disappearing into the noise. It’s how they find a shelter bed for the night. Reach a case manager. Tell a friend where they are. Sometimes it’s how they keep something private and safe when the people around them can’t be trusted with it.

We can’t fix housing overnight. We can’t undo homelessness with a phone charger. But we can make sure young people have what they need to stay connected, to resources, to each other, to anyone trying to reach them with help.

That’s what Share the Light is about. Phones. Data plans. Chargers. Portable chargers. Headphones. The small things that add up to a young person not being alone out there.

Our goal: 100 devices in the hands of young people by October 10. Help us get there.

Skid Row is often called the shadow side of Hollywood. I’ve admired so many young men and women from out of state chasing careers in film, fashion, and music. They arrived with big dreams and a picture of what Hollywood was supposed to be, only to find something very different waiting for them.

Many needed help along the way, financial, emotional, sometimes both. Not because they arrived broken, but because the environment they landed in wore them down. And still, the talent never left them. I’ve walked through shelters to hear classical music coming from a piano, guitars being strung in a corner, and watched donated clothes turned into looks that could walk a runway.

My hope is that these young people find what they came looking for. Community first. And the strength to sidestep the traps this industry sets, so they can define success on their own terms.

If you’re in the fashion industry, music business or film. I’d love for you to contact me if you are willing to share your story of triumph and/or traps. taken in Hollywood, California by @demishann
