Recently I had been thinking about my brand and my small business, and had to ask myself: "What does Denim and Ivory mean?" This name was first chosen for my shop back in 2019 when I opened. I had planned to make things out of upcycled denim and decided to incorporate lace into the name; since lace is usually an ivory color, I went with "Denim and Ivory". Over the years, while my products and branding has changed a lot, the name always stuck. It was catchy and unique, but didn't have any real meaning behind it anymore. I kept it simply because I liked it. But when I really sat down to think about it, I realized that these two words really symbolize my personality. Denim is the side of me that loves to try new things, get outside and explore, be independent and push myself. Ivory (lace) is the side of me that really leans into femininity and all things girly- I love sewing and baking, wearing pretty dresses, the color pink, all the things that are the best about being a woman. These two sides overlap to create, well, me :). And that's why I want to embrace all the things that are unique to my personality. I want to create a brand that is so personal to me, because I think that's such a special thing to have. I've been keeping this in mind while designing new products lately, especially for the fall time, so you have lots of good things coming your way! 💕Meet the Small Business Owner 💕 Lots of new faces around here, so I thought it was time to do another one of these! Hi there! I'm Sara, the face behind DenimandIvory. I'm a part-time nanny, looking to get my business off the ground. If you like to read, whether you devour books on a daily basis, only read here and there when you have a chance, or stick to just your Bible in the morning and evening, I've got something for you! . I grew up in a very artistic family, and my mom taught me to sew and do arts and crafts from a young age. She's still my biggest supporter! We like to listen to audiobooks together while we work, and we're constantly talking about DIY projects and business ideas. . Some things that I love: ❤️Reading (of course) ❤️Making book sleeves and bookmarks for my shop ❤️My best friend (and all my friends😊) ❤️My boyfriend (who taught me to love snowboarding) ❤️Pasta ❤️Pretty skies ❤️Any arts and crafts ❤️Cooking and baking ❤️Hiking and anything outdoorsy ❤️Playing the piano ❤️Tennis 🎾 . This small business let's me combine a few of my favorite things- crafting, through sewing, crocheting, and woodburning the bookmarks; and reading. . Future business plans: I have a lot of book sleeve and bookmarks designs floating around in my mind for all seasons, so my foremost plan is to make those and list them on my shop! I am a Christian, so I really want to do a series of Bible covers in the near future, but I also have a few that work for that already! DenimandIvory is Closing.... Yup, you heard that right! Due to some (very good) life changes, I will no longer be running my small business, as of the end of this year. This was a really great thing for me the past two years, it was something I was passionate about and really kept me moving forward, but it's time for a new chapter and I'm ready for it. As of today I won't be on this Instagram account anymore, but you can message me on Etsy (link in bio) while we stay open! Now is a great time to grab your favorite items before their gone, or some Christmas presents for friends and family. No one told me that when I started my small business I was automatically signed up to become a full-time content creator🫣 I genuinely had no idea how much work went into social media marketing, but now I have a much better idea... At first, I hated it. I wanted to be making products, not taking pictures and videos, making it all look perfect, finding the perfect words for my caption and having to keep up with everyone else's posts. But now that I've gotten into a bit of a groove, and started planning my posts, it's going so much smoother and I'm able to enjoy it for what it is. I get to connect to my supporters in a personal way. So I'd like to know: What is something you love about Instagram, and how has it connected you with people that support you and help you on your journey? The Cinnamon Roll Tote is ready for all your fall adventures🤎 My favorite feature is the drawstrings. While yes, they are extremely cute, they are also functional! Pull them tight to protect your things while out and about. If you're on a busy train, at a Fall Festival, spending the day in the city, it's nice to not have the contents of your bag displayed to everyone around you. It's also nice to keep your things safe when you're on the go. When you're hopping in and out of the car, running into a coffee shop or running around town, it's also really nice to have a closure on your bag so nothing falls out.
