I’m really having fun with those things! Who knew they are so satisfying to make😋 maybe I’ll have to replace all my coffee mugs for goblets now! I’m working on painting the eyes better lol and I’ll be throwing in some more eye bowls in there too.. Finally, the rattling knob mugs are done!
What do you guys think?
They were actually really easy to make, I used my @small_ceramics wheel to throw the knobs and that made the process so much easier! Attaching the knobs to the mugs was surprisingly simple and I ended up using just simple dried balls of clay in the end because I couldn’t go to the store for the alumina hydrate. Fortunately, as long as the tiny clay balls don’t get stuck on the slip when the knobs are attached they do complete fine with this Oregon Red and Walnut from @clayartcentertacoma and the glaze is their Caribbean and Ketchup spots under it! To make sure everything is completely dry and not risk explosions, I ran a 5 hour kindling before they got bisque fired😅

My stone salt shakers inspired by @k.atyu turned out very cute and they actually work!! I thought I’d post this experiment in order to share what I learned:
1. You must not test your salt shakers with salt in the bisque stage!!! Salt should never get in your kiln as it undergoes a chemical reaction that creates poisonous gas!!! (Don’t worry, I am not speaking from experience, I suspected that might be the case based on previous knowledge of salt firing, so researched it in advance)
2. You really don’t need the top holes, you can just shake salt out from the funnel on the bottom and it will probably look more stone like 😅
3. If you decide to go with holes on top, consider that if the pieces fall inside the salt shaker, there is no way to get them out🤔

My two favorites from my last firing combined with some beautiful light that brings them to life😊 Clay is Oregon Red Smooth (the absolute best clay!) from @clayartcentertacoma and glazes are Caribbean and Floating Blue with intentional naked clay showing in between. Disclaimer is that my firing cycle was a bit off so that is not what those two glazes normally look like😅 #pottery #handmade #wheelthrownpottery happyaccidents by @denipottery

The results are in! That was such a fun little experiment and I love how the little test/keepsake jars turned out. Watch until the end to see them😍 #glazetest #ceramics #potterylove #wildwoodashes #woodash Those were fired at cone 6 with a 20 min hold at 04 during the cooling!! I think that’s why they have this matte look by @denipottery

A little experiment for making witchy jars with which hat/ring holder lids thrown as one piece 😊 I’m pretty happy with how they turned out a tad whimsical 😄🧙‍♀️ I really guessed on the glazing and will probably not be able to replicate the dark blue combo😅 #witches #magic #potterylove #wheelthrown by @denipottery

Here are my final results from the online classes by @taylorsijan! I loved every minute of making them! They took a very long time but the whole process was like meditation❤️ I absolutely loved listening to the classes and highly recommend them! Next, I’m to try to make some plates!!
I used @kiwi.underglaze and Pete’s moving clear glaze on @clayartcentertacoma #nz6porcelain . Although the glaze let the underglaze colors shine through very nicely, the colors I picked had no cobalt to make things move, so I’ll probably try again😅 maybe the people from @kiwi.underglaze would comment to recommending the colors that have enough cobalt to make things more exciting with this technique. ❤️ #pottery #ceramics #takeaclass #keeplearning #underglazes #mugs #handmade taken in Brier, Washington by @denipottery

The last mug with the amazing pink flashing is naked NZ6 porcelain and was the only one of the porcelain mugs I put in that gave me any interesting color so I can’t recommending NZ6 for soda. #sodafiredpottery #wheelthrown #pottery #exploremore by @denipottery
