Putting a muzzle on a dog is not hard. It will take you approximately… 15 minutes? Of training time over a few days, and then it’s done.

I have shown, start to finish, how I muzzle trained both Xen and Tye on my wall, so I can’t show it again because it’s done, and I have no idea how to find those videos for you. Maybe search their name and muzzle?

However, I can show you how to adjust a muzzle on a trained dog quickly and easily.

I show this in the second clip with Tye. Obviously, his head is much smaller than Xen’s, so I put the muzzle on him anyway, and then I tighten it.

It’s a lot easier to adjust when the muzzle is already on the dog and secured.

To recap. Put the muzzle on loose. Adjust it as you wish after it is on. by @denise_fenzi

Isolating one variable - stay with me. When the cone caused Xen to almost lose contact, Joaquim backed up just enough that the next attempt was perfect. This was an excellent training exercise. by @denise_fenzi

If you are involved with breeds like huskies and other sled pulling/loving dogs, here is my question:

If the dog were given a choice, would they rather run while pulling, or would they rather run free?

I’m trying to figure out if the pulling itself is intrinsically reinforcing, or if it’s the fact that they are running?

It’s got me thinking about dogs who pull on Leash. A whole lot of them don’t seem to mind at all. indeed, the ones who are most enthusiastic about getting out the door are often the ones that seem to pull the hardest. Which should be a contradiction if pulling is uncomfortable. and I see as many dogs, pulling on a collar as anything else so…

Of course, it could be that they pull just wanna go and they wanna go fast and that means more to them than any discomfort they may feel from pulling.

Or maybe they don’t feel discomfort from pulling. Or maybe they actually like pulling.

Anyway. Thoughts this early morning.

Brito was so happy to see me when I got back from CANIS that he forgot to bark. He was squeaking instead - that’s new for him. by @denise_fenzi

Tye is back to stealing, so I assume he must be feeling pretty good about this toy now.

However, I don’t think it squeaks anymore. I might have to get another one, as much as I dislike squeaky toys, just to see how the process plays out. by @denise_fenzi

I don’t talk to people to educate or change them. I talk to them because I like talking to people. I like sharing my ideas, and hearing theirs as well.

And if they adopt something I do? That’s fantastic! it makes me feel good to contribute to the knowledge of others, regardless of the topic at hand. by @denise_fenzi

Only one class in the School of Rally this term, and it’s a great one!

RA330: Movin’ On Up: Skills and Signs for Master Rally, with Nicole Wiebusch, is for teams who are already competing at the Master level, getting close to moving up, or simply want a head start on the skills ahead. Nicole breaks down Master-level signs and skills, including spins, sends, signals, and recalls, and shows you how to teach them step by step, avoid common errors, and put the pieces together for the ring.

Registration wraps up in a few hours, so this is your last chance to join! by @denise_fenzi

Is obedience or rally your love? Or maybe you’re thinking it should be your love?! We have five classes for you to consider this term! registration closes in a few hours.

OB118: TEAM Sports Foundations Level Two with Laura Waudby introduces skills for TEAM, AKC, CKC, FCI, or whatever obedience program you choose. You’ll work on retrieves, heeling, scent articles, sends, jumps, stays, and more, with each skill broken into manageable steps.

OB140: From Pivots to Practical Heeling with Nicole Wiebusch helps you move from pivot work to confident, connected heeling. Build heel position and rear-end awareness, fade the pivot bowl, and start moving with your dog while developing engagement and accuracy.

OB155: Power Foundations: Building Confidence & Resilience with Petra Ford helps new and experienced teams strengthen focus, communication, and resilience. You’ll work on helping your dog handle challenges, recover from mistakes, and stay engaged, even around distractions.

OB225: Competition Heeling Part Two: Skills & Engagement also with Petra Ford focuses on fine-tuning turns, transitions, and pace changes while building endurance and accuracy without losing animation and attitude. You’ll break down the Figure 8, then put the pieces together into longer sequences.

OB370: Reliable Retrieves with Sara Brueske breaks the obedience retrieve into its component skills, including the hold and front position, then helps you put the pieces together into a reliable retrieve. Feedback is tailored to your dog and obedience venue, and a teaching assistant is available to support Bronze and Silver students.

Looking for some basic foundation skills? Maybe you have a puppy, an adult dog, or a new dog and want to get started on the right foot. Or maybe you want to try a dog sport! Whatever your plans, one of these foundation classes may be just what you need. This term, we have four to choose from:

FE130: Toys – Developing Cooperation and Play, with Shade Whitesel, helps turn your dog’s interest in toys into cooperative play you can use as a reward in sports.

FE145: First Things First – Puppy Foundations for a Bright Future, with Erin Lynes, covers the early skills puppies need, from handling and reward cues to movement, confidence, and everyday life skills.

FE240: Calling All Dogs, with Caden Cristopher, builds a strong recall and relationship through games and shared adventures. It starts with the basics, so it’s suitable even for a new puppy or dog.

FE335: Spaces in Between, also with Shade Whitesel, prepares dogs for the environments and in between moments of seminars, classes, and trials, including responding to cues, managing excitement, and settling calmly.
