Love, in fact, does cost a thing when you live abroad. I’ve been a long distance daughter longer than I haven’t, so I know the bill. It’s not the flights — and yes, those get pricey but anything you can pay for is nothing next to all the regular days you miss. you get better at coping with the distance, while it also gets harder at the same time.

Can’t put a price on not being able to surprise you this father’s day. This one’s for you babişh. I’ll see you soon 🫂

My first yap 🤢 Is this a universal experience or am I the only soul on this earth who feels this way?

I swear the men are a different breed out here.

True story: I was single for ten years. I went on and off the apps because I wanted to put myself out there. I know people who found love that way but I eventually deleted them all because deep down, I always knew I’d meet my guy in person. The damn gut never lies.

It took booking a flight to London for us to meet so if you needed a sign, yes babes book that flight.

Girl to girl, did anyone else have a feeling their person wasn’t in their city… or was that just me?

I’ve spent the last couple weeks talking to hundreds of women in their 30s about feeling behind in life and it turns out we’re all measuring ourselves against timelines nobody agreed to.

If this resonates, subscribe to my Substack to hear what these women have to say. It will change your perspective on “being behind” — 🔗 in BIO

The hardest thing about having a dog is knowing you signed up for the greatest joy and your deepest heartache. And even so, getting a dog in college when I had no business getting a dog is still the best decision I’ve ever made. Kushman, I’m so grateful to be your mom 🤍

Send this to your dog moms 🐶

Episode 4 // Reinvention: Is it just me, or is everyone going through some kind of reinvention?

Lately, all this starting over has me questioning what it actually means to reinvent yourself. And here’s what I’m learning—reinvention isn’t some big, dramatic transformation. It’s the tiny shifts, the choices we barely notice, the moments that slowly shape who we are right now.

So if you’re in your reinvention era too, here’s your reminder: It’s not about becoming someone else. It’s about uncovering more of who you already are—and building from there.

If you’re new here, hi, I’m Deniz 👋 Thanks for being here and figuring this out with me. See you on the next episode.

It’s been 232 days since I’ve boarded a plane.

For someone who grew up in airports, that’s a long time to stay still.

Layovers, window seats, and goodbye hugs at terminals were my normal. Movement shaped who I am. The older I got, the more I craved new places. If I stayed anywhere too long, restlessness would creep in.

Then I applied for a visa, and for the first time in my adult life, I couldn’t leave.

Turns out 80% of the world never does. Six and a half billion people have never been on a plane.

It’s a privilege. To have ability to leave, to come back, and to build a life far from where you’re from.

So instead of looking at this time of my life as being “stuck”, I went back to my bucket list.

Ever since watching A Walk to Remember, I’ve been obsessed with the idea of standing in two places at once — defying distance just by taking a step.

So for my birthday, Kailan and I drove to the exact point where Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg meet.

I wasn’t just standing in two countries; I was standing in three. This season wasn’t about a lack of movement. It was about learning how to stay still long enough to actually see the life I’m in.

My entire life, has really felt like standing in two places at once. Suspended between countries, between missing home and deeply loving the life I’ve built away from it.

That’s how I wrapped up 36 — not on a flight to somewhere new, but standing firmly on the ground.

This one’s for the girl who got to board every plane, and the one who finally learned how to stay.

This was a walk, I’ll always remember.

Being a long distance daughter, and friend has been part of who I am most of my life. And no matter how good at it I think I am, when someone says “I could never leave my family” I still feel that guilt.

If you’re living far from the people you love too, I see you.

What would you add to this list?
