“Yeah hi, I’ve got a tooth that’s— you know what, I’ll call back tomorrow.” (they won’t)
“Do you take— okay, I’ll just Google another one.”

These are illustrative, not recordings. But if you run a front desk, you’ve heard every one of them.
Here’s the part that isn’t a joke. In CallRail’s 2025 consumer study, 58% of people who reach a voicemail don’t leave one. 82% call a competitor instead. So for every message you do get back, there’s roughly one caller you never knew existed — and most of them were new patients, because existing patients text, wait, or call back. New patients don’t. They call the next name in the map pack.

This isn’t a front-desk problem. Nobody can answer a phone at 12:31 pm while checking in 2 patients, or at 7:14 pm when the office is closed. It’s a coverage problem — the phone rings when there’s no one who can pick up.
Two things fix it. Someone (or something) answering every call, including lunch, evenings and weekends. And showing up high enough on Google that you’re the first call, not the third.
