How has corporate dentistry grown?

Over the last thirty years, corporate dentistry has experienced a subtle yet meaningful transformation. A field once dominated by solo and small-group practices has seen the gradual growth of corporate dentistry and dental service organisations (DSOs), reshaping how practices are owned, run, and how care is delivered.

This shift has created both opportunities and challenges. Corporate groups have brought greater operational efficiency, opened up new career routes, and introduced practice models that didn’t exist a generation ago.

What began with early experiments in CAD/CAM and digital radiography has evolved into a sophisticated, fully integrated ecosystem of digital tools that touch almost every aspect of clinical practice.

Here, Alif injects a note of caution, by reminding us of the human element.

He argues that digital dentistry is a powerful tool – but one that must be grounded in sound clinical judgement.
His perspective underscores the importance of balancing innovation with responsibility, ensuring that digital tools augment, rather than replace, human skill and ethical care.

Root canal treatment has been found to reduce inflammation that leads to heart disease and improve blood sugar and cholesterol levels in a new study🫀🔬🦷

The King’s College London study tracked changes in the blood chemistry of 65 patients following root canal treatment for apical periodontitis.

This common dental infection can cause bacteria to enter the bloodstream, leading to inflammation which can affect heart health and the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar.

During the study, successful root canal treatment was linked to:
▪️Improved glucose metabolism, with blood sugar levels still significantly reduced more than two years after the root canal
▪️Better lipid profiles including short-term improvements in cholesterol and fatty acid levels
▪️Reduced inflammation, often linked to cardiovascular risk and other chronic conditions
▪️A body-wide relationship to oral bacteria: bacteria from infected teeth were found to change the body’s overall metabolism.
