“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This festival reminded me that the most meaningful things we create are never created alone. Co-organizing with @devonsandrika is consistently rewarding. She acts in alignment with her values, and she doesn’t avoid the hard stuff, somehow making even the heaviest moments feel light. I am honored and humbled that I get to create alongside her. Our team of teaching artists brought immaculate vibes. They were generous with their wisdom and kindness, on and off the dance floor. They shared our desire to dismantle the uncomfortable hierarchy that can exist at events, creating a joyful, family-like atmosphere. Our DJs did so much more than play incredible music. They supported the technical side behind the scenes, making sure every venue sounded amazing. Multiple people commented on the quality of our local DJs. The music was absolutely fire. Preston beautifully captured the magic of the weekend so we’ll be able to relive these memories for years to come. Our volunteer team was an awesome group of dancers, mostly from the Bachata community. It was inspiring to watch them step into a new dance space with such reverence and curiosity. My adorable mom wanted to help by creating goodie bags for the traveling artists. She’s always worried about altitude sickness and loves pouring guests electrolytes and Eldorado water. And finally, the dancers. You brought the warmth, laughter, connection, and joy that made this weekend feel so special. Thank you to every single person who played a part in making LambaZouk Fest what it was. My heart is so full. This weekend was a reminder that community isn’t something we find, it’s something we build together. by @denverzouk

One thing I love about organizing events is that every lesson becomes an opportunity to make next year’s festival even better.✨ 2026 Lessons Learned:  1 Choosing venues that give traveling dancers the opportunity to experience the city (beyond the walls of a single hotel) is soooo worth the extra labor and logistics. Sterling is a gorgeous venue. The only challenge was that the floor was too sticky, so next year I’ll include the use of baby powder in our contracts. 2 Brand-new dancers will sometimes place themselves in advanced classes, impacting the experience of the whole group. Ooops! Next year we will educate the newcomers on the importance of foundations because the Beginner Track curriculum is fire.  3 Despite our efforts to create a role-balanced event, women purchased more tickets than men. Thankfully, classes and socials stayed balanced thanks to our generous switch dancers who study both lead and follow roles. I’m genuinely curious: what would encourage more men in our community to commit early and purchase an early-bird ticket? LambaZouk Fest received an incredible amount of support through attendance, sponsors, donors, and so many kind words. It’s helping me fully take in the fact that this festival was a great success. I’m realizing I have no problem bringing a vision to life. My real work is learning not to let fear of the unknown steal the joy of creating it.💖 by @denverzouk

Celebration is surprisingly hard for me. After months of planning LambaZouk Fest, my instinct is already to think about next year. But this time, I’m making myself pause. On Thursday, I looked around the venue and wondered how we’d actually pull this off. There were still problems to solve (broken air conditioning, Frontier canceling our headliner’s flights, etc) and my brain was convinced I’d forgotten something catastrophic. Through all of it, @devonsandrika was a pillar of strength and optimism. She reassured me when I doubted, made moves when I froze, and hugged me when I cried. Then Friday arrived. Somehow, every problem I’d been worrying over found a solution. The dancers started hugging each other. The music filled the room. Suddenly the thing I’d been carrying for months had a life of its own. That’s when I knew it no longer belonged to me, it belonged to the community. A year ago I wasn’t sure I could pull off something of this scale. This weekend reminded me that maybe I’m becoming the kind of leader I hoped I’d be. One who is heart-centered, analytically minded, spiritually guided, and capable of creating experiences that improve people’s lives. So today, I’m choosing to celebrate. ✨ by @denverzouk

I had the most epic time @denverzouk Lambada Festival. It was my second time participating and it was even better than last year. It was nice to reconnect with the friends that I met and get to know them more. 💗It was amazing to learn from the talented teachers and get to dance with them and just be in a safe community with no judgment.
