Minister for Children, Disability and Equality @normafoleytd today launched a national children's art competition, inviting young artists across Ireland to share their vision of an "Ireland of the Future".

Open to children aged 4-15, the competition encourages children to create artworks that captures their hopes, dreams and ideas for the Ireland they would like to see in the years ahead.

The competition forms part of celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of Growing Up in Ireland (GUI, @growingupire), the landmark national study that has followed the lives and experiences of children and young people across Ireland for two decades.

Entries must be submitted by 12pm noon on Friday, 23 October 2026. To enter, please follow the link in our story. Today, Ireland welcomed Child Guarantee Coordinators, European Commission representatives and stakeholders from across Europe to Dublin for the opening of the 26th Meeting of the European Child Guarantee Coordinators, as part of Ireland's EU Presidency.

Opening the meeting, Minister of State with responsibility for Disability, @emerhigginstd highlighted the importance of collaboration across Europe, noting that - "We all seek to improve access to quality services. We all strive to reduce inequality. We all aim to ensure that no child is left behind."

The Minister also emphasised the Irish Presidency theme of "ní neart go cur le chéile" or "strength with unity", reflecting the shared commitment of Member States to improve outcomes for children and young people across Europe.

The meeting focused on strengthening implementation of the European Child Guarantee, sharing best practice and exploring how Member States can work together to reduce child poverty, tackle social exclusion and ensure all children have access to the supports and services they need to thrive.
