Another @anglers_choice National Championship in the books and this one might sting for awhile. John and I stumbled into something pretty special this week and almost made something really cool happen. After the first day of the tournament we were sitting in 3rd place with a real shot to win. Day two didn’t go the way we hoped. Our fish didn’t leave but we couldn’t put the pieces together with changing conditions and stumbled, only weighing in 3 fish and dropping us to a 20th place finish. The TVA is one of our favorite places to be but she can be mean. I can tell you we’ll be back for more. Hats off to AC for running a great event; super smooth, well organized, with awesome contingencies and prizes. Usually when an angler posts a sunrise or sunset picture it means a tough day on the water with no fish to brag about. The season has been wrapped up for a little while now and I’ve been reminiscing about some of my favorite trips. From exploring new waters to revisiting favorite honey holes, the fish are always a goal but the journey along the way is just as important. A lot of times running across the lake I thought to myself how lucky myself and other people who choose to do the same thing are. We get to see some pretty cool, beautiful shit out in the wild that many people might never get to. These are some of my favorites from the last year, moments I wish I could bottle up and save for a cold winter day, and I’m looking forward to many more. by @derdyderds

Just wrapped up one of my favorite weekends of the year, our 8th Annual Fall Fishing Weekend. This group of guys has become family to me and I’m so grateful for times like these where we all come together. This year was filled with more laughs than I can count, memories made, and lots of good food (plus some insane fish catches which will be posted later). I’m so thankful for these guys, and the tradition we’ve made! Here’s to many more years for this trip!

Testing on the @cashionfishingrods icon series. I picked up the 7’2 MH Shakeyhead rod for another application but found I’m really enjoying it for heavier dropshotting. 3/8 weights and up with larger hooks like a size 1 or 1/0 VMC Finesse Neko. A softer tip but plenty of backbone to handle fish like this one just under 5 pounds. Not the spot I had in mind on the roster but it’s definitely found a place on the front deck. Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. by @derdyderds

Another weekend chasing browns with @frankjohno. Started our weekend off on Saginaw Bay with a second place at the @anglers_choice with 24 pounds Saturday and then boogied our way up north for the @bass_nation Team Series on Burt and Mullet on Sunday. We weighed in a mid-22 pound bag after having to ditch our gameplan and scramble for some new fish. We learned a ton on a new to us and TOUGH fishery in Indian River. Successful opening weekend for the boys. 4th place finish at Top Bass on Saturday with 17.85 lbs of Saginaw River Mixies for myself. Followed closely by @frankjohno with a monster bag of greens sealing the deal on the last check. Sunday we headed up to Houghton for the Anglers Choice/Good Intensions combined tournament. We ended up with 17.12, good enough for a check in both divisions. My @cashionfishingrods 7’3 Heavy Flipping Rod boat flipped every largemouth with ease after pulling mean river fish around metal cables, wood pilings and concrete rip rap. The 7’4 medium FFS rod gave me the finesse to pick off key isolated smallmouth on the river and the next day on houghton as well. We are officially back baby! by @derdyderds

A scouting trip on new water turned into an opportunity to run into this freak! Weighing in at 7.78 she shattered my expectations for the trip. I had to clear the scale, shut it off and turn it back on multiple times because I just couldn’t believe it. We don’t get the chance to see this size class very often so it’s always tough to gauge the size on these giants. You just know it’s a big one! Great way to kick off the season. What an incredible week practicing for and fishing the @anglers_choice National Championship on Lake Guntersville. This place is an absolute fish factory and the weights were stacked. It felt like 20lbs was just a pat on the back at weigh in, even with a full 256 boat field. John and I were able to put together enough both days to get us a check and were the 4th highest finishing AOY team. Any time that you get the opportunity to fish for two fully rigged boats at one of the best venues in the country is a win in my book. Anglers Choice does it right! All my weigh fish came on my Cashion rods, the rods I trust to put fish in the boat when money is on the line. taken in Lake Guntersville by @derdyderds
