Years ago, I dreamt I was bowling next to Brett Michaels. We got to chatting and eventually he asked me to go on tour playing bass with Poison. I feel like this is as close as I’m going to get that, and I feel pretty good about it.

So excited to be playing @echoparkrising this Sunday with these lovely folks! We’ll be playing original songs I’ve written, as well as a song by @jpblues that I arranged with string quartet accompaniment! And I’ll be singing that one with very special guest @blissypew 😊 come over to @strongholdclimb in Echo Park at 1pm this Sunday and check it out! @violet1000000 @simone.maura @rockmecutie @dereksteincello by @dereksteincello

One of my favorite things about playing in VSQ is some of the sick bass lines I get to play. Can you guess the song from just the bass part?

In November of 2025 I had yet another opportunity to perform with #wordlessorhcestra under the direction of the incredible Robert Ames @robertamesmusic backing up the incomparable Sigur Rós @sigurros . We played two shows in San Francisco and three in LA and all of them were incredible experiences. Here’s a short clip from one of the shows in San Francisco. Video filmed by @chppll_t

Some of my favorite moments, the ones that I look for and love to record, are the quiet ones. Little things, little details. An instrument tech restringing and tuning a bass guitar by headlamp. The conductor sitting in contemplation in an empty hall, listening to his orchestra practice. A stage tech reading a book while musicians mill nearby before the show starts.

Those same musicians peaking out at the crowd before the performance, looking for their parents. Relaxed smiles from a normally reserved rock star. A stage hand contemplating the theater, newly empty after the band has broken down and moved on.

I love this stuff. I love being a quiet observer. I love being trusted by people to move amongst them and record these intimate moments of their lives.

The concert images are fun, yes. But where is the soul of a show really, truly seen? For me it's when everyone relaxes and becomes their genuine, unguarded selves.

I'd photograph this every day of my life if I could.

Dressing room sessions (from a few days ago): I’ve been really enjoying @thefaint ‘s catalogue over the last few years. This is a small excerpt of my one my favorites of theirs. Also, it was featured in an episode of The Office and we all know how I feel about that show.
