The legs are a common site for skin cancer, especially in women.

* Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) often develops on the lower legs, particularly areas with chronic sun exposure.
* Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) can also occur on the legs and has been increasing in frequency there, especially in women.
* The risk is related to cumulative UV exposure over many years. by @dermmdsaid

☀️ Tan Now, Wrinkles Later: What You Should Know
⁣
Many young patients share that they love the look of a tan. But here’s the reality: tanning is your skin’s response to injury from UV exposure—not a sign of health.
⁣
Even subtle tans can lead to:
• Premature fine lines and wrinkles
• Uneven pigmentation and sun spots
• Loss of skin elasticity
• DNA damage that increases skin cancer risk
⁣
Early sun protection sets the foundation for long-term skin health. Daily SPF, sun-safe habits, and awareness can prevent visible aging and protect against serious conditions down the road.
⁣
Healthy skin is a lifelong investment—and prevention always starts early.

Could this tiny spot on the ear be skin cancer? 👂👀

This subtle spot was basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Ears get significant UV exposure, so check both sides and use SPF.

Any spot lasting over 6 months should be checked.

I see basal cell carcinomas on the legs all the time. We’re so good about protecting our faces, but we often forget our legs.

UV exposure and cumulative sun damage increase the risk of basal cell carcinoma.

Don’t just protect your face. Protect your legs too—with sunscreen and UPF clothing.#skincanceeawareness#doubleboardcertifieddermatologist #mohssurgeon by @dermmdsaid

Patients are always surprised by the length of the scar!

An SCC on the arm may require a 4 mm surgical margin around the visible cancer. And because the incision needs to be longer to close the skin properly, the final scar can be much longer than the original spot.

Another reason to catch skin cancers early—the smaller the cancer, the smaller the surgery. ❤️ by @dermmdsaid

🚨 Small doesn’t always mean low-risk.

A squamous cell carcinoma on the nose is considered high-risk based on location alone even when it’s tiny.

Why? The nose sits in the high-risk “Area H” of the face.

For these tumors, complete margin control matters, which is why Mohs surgery is often the preferred treatment.

📍 Location matters.
🔬 Early diagnosis matters.
☀️ And never ignore a new, growing, crusting, or non-healing spot on the nose.

🚨 Actinic keratoses are NOT “just sun spots.”

AKs are precancerous lesions and the principal precursor to cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).

The challenge? We cannot reliably predict which AK will progress to invasive SCC.

That’s why I treat AKs early and when there are many, I think beyond the individual spot and treat the entire sun-damaged field.

☀️ Years of UV damage add up.
🔎 Find AKs early.
🩺 Treat the field.
➡️ Help prevent the next SCC.

That “little crusty spot” on the forehead? It could be SCC in situ. 🔎

Skin cancer doesn’t always look dramatic. A rough, scaly spot that won’t heal or keeps coming back deserves attention.

Don’t ignore it—get it checked by a dermatologist.

Save this and share it with someone who needs the reminder. ☀️

Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA) is a scarring type of hair loss, frequently observed in women post-menopause. Characterized by a gradually receding hairline and eyebrow loss, this condition requires early diagnosis and treatment. This is crucial because once scarring develops, the hair loss is permanent, making intervention vital to slow progression and protect existing hair. by @dermmdsaid
