Five more new releases from this year that I’ve been loving:Turnover “Down On Earth” — A band I’ve been lucky enough to call friends since their beginning, this new album is some of their finest work and an inspired blend of their many styles into one ambitious, yet cohesive offering. Their first independent album release as well. Buying physical is important, and even more so when it’s your friends.Pharmacist “Vertebrate After Vertebrate” — Insane death metal/goregrind from Japan. Very enjoyable, thank you to @tgavura for putting me on.Prince Daddy & The Hyena “Hotwire Trip Switch” — Another band of longtime friends and dare I say my favorite album of theirs yet. This one grows on me more and more with each listen. This album has ear worms for days and is brimming with energy.Potionseller “Buzzard” — Debut album from a band that I think will become a force to be reckoned with in the greater pop punk/emo-sphere. This album is so good, so dynamic, and you ought to keep an eye on this band. Thank you to @fullblownmeltdown and @disabledinternet for putting me on early. Killing Pace “HCPM” — Relentless metal-imbued hardcore punk and one of the best bands to do this style in my opinion. “Mangled State” is one of the angriest songs I’ve heard in a long time. The great big stack of 2026 keeps growing, and I still have some preorders that have yet to roll in that I’m eagerly waiting to listen to in full. So much time, effort, and care goes into every step of the way of making music that I think is much more deserving than just a handful of streams and a small blip of passive attention. I believe that good music keeps getting better, like a tool that keeps sharpening itself, and 2026 is testament to that. There’s no way to keep up with everything, but these releases have been sticking with me for sure. Suggest me something to check out! by @derrickdegan

The art of music merchandise mailorder graphics has been all but lost to time. Merch powerhouses like Rockabilia and Blue Grape used to dominate pages of magazines with dozens of tiny square pictures of designs I’d dream of having as a kid. The industry has evolved so much over the past 30 years, with consumer and design trends changing year after year. Everything from retailers big and small selling shirts and CDs, to Earache Records peddling death metal ringtones, there has always been a market for all things music and it’s really cool to take a look back to the not so distant past and look at how much it’s changed. With the progression of technology, I wonder how long it will take for today’s music marketplace to become outdated and nostalgia-evoking. I’d really like to scan and archive more of these images that only exist in print that are disappearing to time year after year. If you’d like to donate old music magazines to the cause then DM me. That’s right, it’s poster time! I’ve been collecting posters for well over a decade now; be it digging through a stranger from eBay’s attic, clearing out the back room of a record store, or finding them on tour and having to worry about them getting damaged in the van, I’ve had a lot of great finds over the years and collected some notable stories. There are plenty I’ve passed on that haunt me to this day, but that’s life when you have continually developing niche interests. If anyone in Cleveland has someone they go to for framing and wants to recommend them, let me know! by @derrickdegan
