Goodbye September, Hello October 🎃 Do you have a favourite month of the year? Mine is October, with September a close second. Not only do I love it because it’s the perfect month of fall here, but everything associated with it. I love Halloween, I love fall baking, spooky movies have an extra ✨pizazz✨ when watching them in October…. I could go on and on. But September…. September feels like a breath of fresh air. The first whispers of fall activities opening up, apple picking, first hints of a sweater outside, leaves slowly starting to change. I had a great September. I read 12 books in September, comparatively to my average of 1 a month - if that, over the past 6 months. September reading wrap up to come :) by @desereads
Happy October 1st my friends, it’s the best month of the year! I was off from work yesterday, and what better way to spend a weekday completely free? Readathon! I spent most of my day reading and decided to document it and time it for a fun little post. I obviously stopped the watch whenever I wasn’t reading, whether it be physical or on audio. Overall I had the absolute best time, I read some good books and had some fun snacks and drinks. I’m currently ranking all the brands on ketchup chips I can get my hands on so I had a little bit of those while reading! Hope you all have a wonderful first day of October 🤍 by @desereads
4 friends walked into a bar…. Yeah I don’t have a joke I just wanted to introduce this post showing off my friends & I’s different days. This is our take on the trend I first saw on TikTok where friends show snippets of their day by the hour. Enjoy <3 by @desereads
The Things We Never Say by Elizabeth Strout Wow, I haven’t posted a book review in so long, I feel as though I’ve forgotten how to formulate my thoughts. I had no idea this was up for the Booker Longlist, let alone that it was then shortlisted. I finished it just before they announced it was part of the Shortlist, and well deserved. This book was beautiful. I listened to it half physical, half audio, and they were both wonderful reading experiences. This story navigates the themes of loneliness and alienation and does so beautifully, through the characters, their thoughts, their actions, and how they navigate others. This is very much a character driven novel, and it felt very much like a story about people. The passage I’ve shared is one that reflects the impact our main character Artie Dam - high school history teacher - has left on a student of his. In today’s age, this passage really stuck with me because I know how teachers get treated now and how little importance is placed on them. My high school years truly were formed by my teachers. Two teachers in particular really marked my high school experience, and I genuinely do not think I’d be who I am today had it not been for them. They are part of my fondest memories of those years and I hold them with me wherever I go, and in whatever I do. All in all, this was a beautiful story about some very human people, and I urge you all to pick it up if it somewhat interests you. Hopefully, you will not be disappointed. by @desereads
Autumn Media Recommendations 🍂 It’s everyone’s favourite time of year, autumn. I love making posts where I can showcase some autumnal favourites and / or recommendations. Do you have any you’d add to this list? Would love to see everyone else’s fall recommendations. Of course this is just a very short list, I have so many more I could have included. I’m thinking of making a fall 26’ favourites post as well. Let’s see where fall takes me by @desereads
Anatomy of an Alibi by Ashley Elston I’m back baby! I’m on a big mystery/thriller kick and I’ve been listening to so many audiobooks and this one was so good. Two women switch identities for a night, but when one of their husbands is found dead the following for mining, only one of them has an alibi. Every time I felt as though I knew what was going on or what the big reveal was, I was wrong. The pacing was really good, the characters were fitting for the story, and the ending I did NOT see coming. That last chapter is what solidified it as a 4 star read rather than perhaps a 3.5 read. The audiobook was also very good, I love a good full cast narration. I’ve yet to read anything else by this author but after enjoying this one as much as I did I think I just might need to! by @desereads
I’ve been loving audiobooks. I’ve never been huge on audiobooks, just because I sometimes get easily distracted and would find myself having to replay chapters. It used to be hard for me to get lost in an audiobook. That’s not to say I haven’t listened to any in the past I loved! (Sadie, The Hobbit, etc.) But for the last week or so I’ve been really enjoying them. I’m on my third one right now (not counting the two DNF’s) and it’s honestly what believe to be what’s getting me out of my slump! I’m on a huge thriller/mystery kick right now so that’s the majority of what I’ve been listening to but honestly, I think they’re the best books to listen on audio. Please leave a comment with your audiobook recommendations! I need some more to check out by @desereads
What has been your favourite read of the year? I was going through my shelves, trying to decrease my physical TBR and noticed Hamnet on my shelves. While I have yet to read the book, the movie was beautiful and I think about it often. I need to read the novel soon but I’m scared it’ll hurt. So I’ve decided to use it as the picture of my post today by @desereads
happy September 1st 🍂 While I had an amazing summer, I’ve been counting down the days to fall. Growing up, I was never one to believe a season or the outdoors can have a notable effect on someone. Boy was I wrong…. I never feel more like myself than during the autumn season. Everything about this time of year brings me so much comfort and excitement simultaneously. From the crisp fall morning air, the cozy fall activities, to the gloomy Pinterest mood boards, to the spooky fall time media…. I could go on. I’ve been reading some mystery/thrillers to get me in the mood and I feel so content. QOTD: are you a fall person? by @desereads
I am so late to this trend but I really wanted to do it so here I am 🤲🏻 I truly do not care what people think of my reading taste, from Twilight and The Mortal Instruments, to Haunting Adeline and Mindf*ck, to Babel and A Little Life. Books are books and I enjoy what I enjoy 🤍 by @desereads
I asked you guys which books you associate with me… When I saw @villainousbooks do this trend I knew I had to hop on, it’s so wholesome and fun to see what books people associate with you. I got so many answers, I was shocked. However, the books you all chose did not surprise me one bit. The same 7 books kept coming up, meaning I’m doing something right. Please consider this propaganda. I love these books, you should too. • Frankenstein by Mary Shelley • The Infernal Devices (or any shadowhunter books) by Cassandra Clare • A Little Life by Hanya Hanagihara • Babel by R.F Kuang • If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio • The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab • This is How you Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone Did I miss any? Are there any other books you think should’ve been on this list? I’ve tagged some friends that I think should hop on this trend if they haven’t already <3 by @desereads
