“I Still Feel You Across the Distance”

Fever Dreams is an excellent group exhibition at Desert Crafted, an artist-run gallery and studio space founded by Lara Plecas (@lara_plecas) in Midtown Phoenix.

Dedicated to exhibiting established artists from the Valley and abroad, Desert Crafted offers an intimate setting for thought-provoking work and large-scale installations.

One such installation comes from Mehrdad Mirzaie’s Garden series.

Large glass plates stand in the front window display. Translucent faces look back at you, peeling, fading, and blending into one another.

Along the wall, smaller glass plates are arranged in rows like books on a shelf. Something whispers to you unintelligibly. You tell yourself not to forget.

The experience is not unlike looking through an old family photo album, encountering faces of people you’ve never met but somehow feel connected to.

Another striking work is a painting by Charmagne Vasquez. Combining the palette of Matisse with the energetic tension of de Kooning, the composition moves like fire, emerging and engulfing all at once.

A barely recognizable figure, seemingly composed of earthly elements, materializes amid the flames. Perhaps a bringer of light, or of destruction.

Fever Dreams is on view through December 12, and @desertcrafted is open for scheduled events, visits, and workshops by appointment.

Shout out to @lara_plecas of Desert Crafted for providing a space for fine art to live and breathe, and for bringing together powerful voices in our community.

Congratulations and well done to all of the artists involved:

I am thrilled to be exhibiting the work of Mehrdad Mizraie in the current exhibition Fever Dream at Desert Crafted. His work is haunting and a relevant documentation of portraits of Iranian citizens that have gone missing. The Installation "The Garden" serves as an archive and resting place to honor these individuals. The installation is comprised of hundreds of portraits that are transferred onto glass and displayed as an archive resembling glass slides that are slid into grooves on the shelves. Come experience his work in person this Friday 6-9pm at Desert Crafted. by @desertcrafted

The opening reception for Fever Dream is this Friday October 16th 6-9pm
